bmaria78, I just looked at the site you posted..I can see why you are freaked out...however, I was banded in May and I have NEVER had a pb or slime time! Granted, I have 6cc's out of a 9cc band filled. I just got my second fill but so far, all is good.

As for the people on the site, there is a risk...some of them mentoned esophogus sp? problems...well, that is certainly not the norm...will you have that? I guess you'd have to discuss that with your dr...

You know, I did my research, chose a very experienced surgeon...etc...

Some people's band may not have been placed correctly...it can happen...

On the bright side...look at all the happy people on this site...I happen to know several banded folks now and they are doing great...

You have to follow dr's orders and take time to heal, etc... but, in my opinion, it really would not have been approved by so many insurances...including mine! if it was not worth it....

Good luck! Stay off negative sites if you have made your decision and it freaks you out...find the poitive!

Yeah, don't let those sites freak you out about the band, especially when they are trying to convince people to go with the MGB procedure. Its a horrible marketing ploy. I have not been banded yet but I am convinced this is the procedure for me. I really don't like the idea of someone hacking up my guts. At least this leaves my bowels intact. LOL

Paula , call your doctor right away.your band could slip or there could be other issues. The more u vomit the more damage ur doing. I was banded about 6 months ago and went through the same thing after a fill. U may need to remove some for less restriction. Dont wait ----call.

i am 2 months post op- i was banded on june 10th, and i am down 24 lbs...woohoo...

I received my second fill today, i don't know how much, nor do i know my band size. I can not stop throwing up, i have thrown up 14 times since 10:00 this morning. I am also having a bout of diarreah.... My head is pounding and i feel like i have an orange lodged in my throat:cursing:....i don't know where the substance i am puking is coming from, but it definitely seems like slimming, only it burns my esopogus...

Am i going to survive...should i give my body time to adjust?

Thanks, love the forum and all the help i have gotten!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
