Since you are newly banded, my guess is that is is trapped gas, I had the same pains, have you tried any kind of gas releiver medicine like Gas X, walking may help to, to move the gas around and out

I have the SAME thing! Mine isn't gas though...I don't think. I am three weeks out, gas pain should be gone?? I have sharp stabbing pains on my left shoulder, especially when I exercise. I spend many hours at night holding my left shoulder in pain. It comes back every evening and is gone when I wake up. STRANGE!!

I use to have the pain in my lower rib cage left side and around back. Seems to come on after I eat so I chalked it up to overeating and took things alot slower.

Hope you get to the bottom of what is causing it.

Have you asked your doc?

I have had pain in my left shoulder and chest off and on since surgery last week. I just got off the phone with the dr office. They said I am either overeating or drinking too much...eat less and sip is what they told me.

I took a drink of Water at about 5:00 am this morning and my chest was hurting really bad. I guess I can't drink anything that early. The nurse told me to drink something warm like tea or coffee to get rid of the mucous from the night before. I am having to re-learn a lot of things now that I have a fill.

Hi everyone,

I am too familiar with the pain you are speaking of. I was banded in January and the pain in my left shoulder was worse than my son stepping on my port incision. lol. Although you may not believe it, gas is a possibility. There is very little you can do to get rid of it and it could take up to 6 weeks before it subsides. As for the horrible shoulder pain, hamu, I had the same thing. I had my hand on that shoulder for weeks and would rub it on every door jamb I could find. I thought it was bursidis (sp) but my doctor said this.....Sometimes, after surgery, when we are totally dead weight, we are moved very roughly from the Operating table to the recovery room bed. Often, the caring staff may not be too caring or not realizing how we may land should they put us down the wrong way. Many times, a pinched nerve is the culprit of the shoulder pain. I stuck it out for weeks and finally couldn't take it anymore. It ached 24/7. Atleast it took the focus off of my incision pain and hunger. lol. Anyway, my doctor gave me a script for inacet which is a pain killer but it contains tylenol, not motrin. You can take them if you break them up in half. It didn't make it go away, but it was tolerable. I am now 5 months out and have no shoulder pain. Well, some times I feel a small ache but that is if I have eaten too much and I think it is gas then. Good luck and time does heal all wounds.

I went to my Dr appt appointment today, my one week post op, and as far as the pain is concerned, my Dr said it could be several things. I asked him if if could be related to heart, and his repsonse was having surgery opens you to several things, days, weeks, months following, sometimes it is gas, pinched nerves, etc....but it should go away. That's good because I was fearing my heart was literally aching

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
