Throwing up, the old fashioned way

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Something that's been bothering me for a while... I knowall about the joys of PBing. It's something I can deal with.

However, I do have a worry about "traditional" being sick.

I do a lot of travel. It's inevitable that sooner or later I'll eat something that gives me food poisoning.

So, what happens when food has passed through the pouch, is sitting in the normal stomach area and then suddenly needs to come back up again?

Does it come up ok or is it a time of terrible risk for a bandster? If so, any ideas on how to make the process as easy as possible?

If, say, kneeling down is better than standing up then I'd love to know.

Cheers

Rich

well, any kind of PB/throwing up is not good for the band...

i've thrown up a few times with my morning sickness and it HURT. i found it easier to stand up straight and then bend at the waist...

i was also advised the same as a PB. you throw up, go on liquids for at least 12-24 hours.

good luck and happy travels!

Rich,

I was worried about that too and asked my doctor. He said that if I got sick to go to the doctor immediately. The band prevents you from throwing up what has gone into the stomach. They also said if I were to go out of the country to take a needle with me. The nurse said that doctors that are use to chemo therapy could remove some of the Fluid from the band. She actually went to a hospital in California and no one knew about the band and she had to take some Fluid out herself.

I just hope I never get sick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
