New To The World Of Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Donna I live in Winooski, Vt. and my husband and I are making this journey together. We thought if we both had the surgery than we could help keep each other on task.

My husband lost his father to Obestity 10yrs ago, :sad:and together we want to insure this never happens to us. We have three wonderful children who need us, and we want to be active with them in all they do. We want to help them from a young age eat healthier and make better food choices.

My father had the gastric by pass about 8 yrs ago and is doing very well, despite the getting sick after he eats from time to time. He has lost 150pds and has kept it all off. He said he would do it all over again if faced with the same choices.:w00t:

We have been in the program since March 08 and are nearing the end. I have about 3pds to meet my 5% weight loss and my husband has just met his. We attended the support group meeting last night for the first time. It was very eye opening and helpful. Tonight I watched the surgery performed live. Any questions I had have now been answered about the surgery and how its done. We still have to attend one class on the 19th and then it's waiting for the date.

Do you have any suggestions for us?

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH....that is my advice. Know everything that could happen before, during and after surgery. Know that you will not be eating solid food for awhile after surgery. Know that you will not get a fill and then eat solid food that day. Know everything. SO many people get on and have all these questions about the band and what is happening, like they have no clue what is going on. This is the best decision you can make for yourselves, just know all that you can and arm yourself with information. Good luck with your journeys!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
