Back to School After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering has anyone had the surgery while they were in college I'm only taking 12 credits and they are all history classes which I would if I could not miss hardly any since nearly everything is Lecture and readings that are out of class. I have to get the surgery while I'm in this last semester because my insurance will run out when I graduate. So basically I was wondering how fast has everyone gone back to class. I plan to take a week off of work so I can rest when I'm not in class. Thanks everyone!!!!

hi there! well i was thinking of having the surgery during my summer courses but i decided to wait until the week break bt summer and fall semester. i think that you will be able to do school right after this surgery but the only thing i will tell you to prepare for are the probs i have read that others have had the fist 2 days post op. many complain of nasea, weakness, and well diarreah. now we are all diff and hopefully and most likely you won't have to deal with all these probs. I have read that manypeople were up the next day. the only other chanllange is that it might be painful to drive. some people are so sore it hurts to hit the break. again these are just some not all people. Just be prepared and good luck. :w00t:

I'm not a college student... but I work 8 hours a day and have an hour commute... so two hours in the car every day. I'm hoping to get banded on a Thursday and back at work on Monday, or banded on a Friday and back at work the following Tuesday (so I'm only missing one day of work, and I'll have 3 days to recover).

I know I'm pushing it... but I have to work. I get paid time off but I can't use it all for post op unless I need to.

I had my surgery last month and decided not to take summer classes. I go back in 2 1/2 weeks.

I was starting to wonder if I'm the only college student that got the band! It's good to know that I'm not the only one out there!

I took winter semester off and had the surgery on January 22nd. Then I was back in April. However I was back at work a week and a half after surgery. You can do it! :bored:

I had my surgery friday morning and was back in class (nursing school) that next tues afternoon. Big issue was risk for clots; i was told to get up and walk around every 30 min or so.

I had the surgery over my winter break so I had a good 3 or so weeks to prepare and I had complications so I wouldnt've been able to go back. I would suggest that you talk to your professors and let them know you're having abdominal surgery and that there's a possibility of you missing some classes and see if you can't get some of the material in advance, so you can be prepared if any complications do arise. The one thing that bothered me being back in school was sitting up against the stupid desk. It kept hitting me right in the port site!

I had my surgery back in March. I had 3 classes (10 credit hours) on Monday and Weds. I took off the following week from school. After that was not a problem. Plus my Professors were really cool, they emailed me any notes or discussions in class. Good luck!!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
