Dr said to listen to my body...What am I listening for??

Recommended Posts

Hello Again! Ok, so I am 8 days post op and have been having trouble staying full.

**The first post I put up expressing my issue with hunger pains, I found out that my sugar intake would have alot to do with it...so I cut out the sugar..that worked for a day

**The second post I put expressing my hunger issue again...I was advised to stick with the cream Soups and just drink more Water and other liquids. Did that and it worked for a day

NOW...today, I felt like I was eating alllllll day!! By the time I would finish one thing..I would be good for an hour and then be starving again! So I looked through my Lap band paperwork and found my guide. It said Phase 1 will last for "ABOUT" 2 weeks. It said to listen to my body and if I am able to intake more with no issues...then it was time to advance to Phase 2-Mushies....

So I had some egg salad tonight and had about 3 tea spoons..slowly (took me about 25 minutes to eat it) and NOW I AM GOOD..I feel ok, I don't feel hungry and it's been about 2 hours...My question is..What am I listening for in my body?? How do I know if I've taken too much or if I am doing damage? I'm confused now. :confused2:

Just eat very slowly and until you feel satisfied...not stuffed. I didn't really have any guidelines in this area either, my nutritionist just told me "you'll know"...it took awhile but I think i'm getting it now lol!

Nikole,

It sounds like you are suffering from a serious case of "head hunger". It looks like you are doing everything right, with the Soups and such. I would go ahead and eat mushies (my dietician says it should be thin enough that you could drink it through a straw 'cept you can't use straws). Track every bite on something like www.fitday.com and make sure that you are getting about 1000 calories a day too! Stay away from the egg salad. Even chewed well it's too rough for your healing stage, and that mayo is not good for your lifestyle change. Next week you should be ready for "softly" scrambled eggs.

Getcha one of those "wand" blenders and you can puree pretty much whatever you like. Just remember to add liquids as needed until it is mushy enough. You can have your egg salad that way! I'd just mix the eggs and some skim milk and whatever seasonings you want. Trust me, when you're hungry, you'll get pretty darned creative about mushing things together :biggrin2:

Small explosions. Gunfire, the usual stuff.

How do I know if I've taken too much or if I am doing damage? I'm confused now. :confused2:

It is highly unlikely that if you are following the guidelines as set out by your surgeon, you will do any damage.

At this stage, if you were to sit down to a steak dinner, pizza or the like, yeah, you might have issues now or later down the track.

Just take it slow.

I am on my second day, and following the orders that were given me by Saint Francis in Indy. Eating very soft foods, scrambled eggs, baby food, cream of what the hell is available. I too am having mouth or head hunger, trying to occupy the mind by doing reading or something else.

How do you get the trackers on your blog?

Listening to my body means, I get this feeling like a tightness or if someone were putting there hands around the base of my neck. It just gets a tight feeling. And that is one of my signals to stop. Also if I burp while I'm eating. Then I know to stop. And it's not like I'm miserably full after the burp. Actually it takes about 10 minutes give or take before I actually feel the fullness. But those apparently are the signs that my body tells me that I'm full. Also I stop or slow down and like feel myself (not like that) like how your eyes shift around your sockets like your trying to ponder something, and maybe it's partial fear, but I stop thinking that I've had enough and I sure don't want to eat too much and be miserable, let alone toss my Cookies, especially in a resturant. Hope this helps. Susan:eek:

Thanks so much for all the posts! Looking at some of the posts, I can relate to the hiccups while eating and a couple of other indicators. I am mushies now..and doing well. Trying to stick to 3 meals now is crazy but I take it day by day. Today I did feel a little light headed...one thing that makes me upset is not knowing how good or bad of a day I will have. Someone please tell me that is temporary?!?!?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
