Attended Orientation...

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am a 24 year old married mom of 2.

Yesterday I did my 5 hour orientation at Kaiser Richmond - (hi to all that were there with me!) boy was it a lot of information!

Well today is the first day of my pre-op diet. Not bad so far, I actually feel full. I'm having a problem with drinking Water an hour after eating, but think it'll be easier as I progress. Right now I'm trying to worry about only eating whats on the list and the amounts I am supposed to.

Today is day 2 of no caffinee, day 1 of no gum, day 1 of chewing 30 times lol

So my psych appointment is scheduled for September 30.

The dietician said that I won't find out how much wait they want me to lose until AFTER my psych appointment. She said the surgeon will set the amount of weight I should lose before he'll perform surgery. BUT she said if I lose at least 10% by my psych appointment that they can schedule things closer together. So my goal is to lose 30 lbs with the pre-op diet (I am at 265 as of yesterday)

My timeline doesn't seem TOO far away...

Lose at least half (if not all) by September 30 - Psych Appt

2-4 Weeks Case manager (Nov 1)

2-4 Weeks Surgeon (Dec 1)

Surgery 4-6 (Jan 30)

So hopefully by Feb I'll be banded.

Any advice?

Best advice I can give is listen to your docs and consultants, question and research everything so you understand it all, and stay on plan. February can seem like it's far away, so you need to stay focused and be vigilant from day one - and stay that way.

Everyone slips up... but it's getting back on track quickly and with purpose that means the most to your success.

Remember that none of this is easy, no matter what some of us say or intimate. This is a new life and a new way of living it. There is nothing short term about it. Treat it that way, and it becomes a bit easier.

Move as much as you can, eat healthy, get into these habits. It's easy to make justifications, especially when you have other people to take care of. "Just this once" turns into "I'll make up for it later" turns into "why am I not losing weight?!"

Your success is entirely dependent upon you. No one can do it for you, no one can make you eat, no one can stop you from doing what you need to do.

Good luck.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
