Port soreness question

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I tried to find some info on this by doing a search, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for...

I was banded 6/4/08 and have not had any problems at all. The past week or so, though, I've noticed some soreness in my port area when I make certain movements, mostly when I'm walking. Last night I was walking pretty vigorously on the treadmill and with almost every stride I could feel a soreness/pulling in the area where my port is placed. I've noticed this soreness/pulling feeling not just when I'm walking vigorously, though. Sometimes I feel it when I'm just casually strolling. Earlier today I was stretching with my arms over my head and I could feel significant pulling and discomfort in my port area.

Does anyone know how long sorness in the port area is normal? What would not be considered normal? It seems like I read somewhere on the forum that it's normal to feel soreness in your port area for several months after surgery. I'm just afraid of it pulling away from the muscle and/or flipping and want to make sure I don't do anything that causes problems. How much chance is there of this happening?

Thanks for your input.

Initially, your port area will be sore when you exercise due to it's still in the healing stage. I know that my Dr. told me that it'll come and go as your body goes through its changes. No worries...

I'm two weeks post op and have had minimal soreness, until the last couple of days. I called my doctor's office today and talked with the nurse. She said that it was normal, and unless I was having drainage, hot to the touch, pain so bad I couldn't stand type of thing, to be patient and try to be careful.

It isn't horrid pain, but hits once in awhile with a stab that startles me...but I feel better after talking to the nurse (who is a lap band patient, too)

Thanks for the input, y'all. I felt like it was probably normal but just wanted some confirmation from fellow bandsters.

I just did a search on this topic, but the posts were directed to new bandsters only! I am almost 3 months out and I still have port pain! It is really bad today. Like a pulling soreness type of thing... it's really weird and I am starting to worry...I hope I didn't damage anything! :w00t:

I am 6 wks out from surgery and I have had port pain since the beginning! It was really bad for the first few weeks, has been getting a little better each day. I have been back to the surgeon twice about this and had a few phone calls to him and the P.A. Everything check ed out ok and they say it is normal, some people just have it worse than others. I was so frustrated for a while because I found very few people who had it like me, that burning and pulling sensation every time I moved. For the first month, I couldn't walk without something tight on under my clothes to hold it in place. It's just now to where I'm able to go without it. Anyway, hope that helps, I think it's just helpful to know that someone else has had the same issue and it does get better! Good luck!

It does help when you find out others are having the same issues. Sounds like your pain has been a lot worse than anything I've experienced - sorry to hear that. Thanks for your post. It's good to hear from people who have spoken to their surgeons and found out we are in the norm.

I received my band March 08 and paid special attention to my port site as I was scared to allow it to become infected or worse. I always kept my insessions clean and medicated. After about 4 monts out, the port scar os tender and sometimes numb to the touch. When I sneeze I have to hold the port site or it will really hurt bad.

I assume my body if functing accordingly but my port site remaines numb. I plan on speaking to my doctor about this issue a week from Friday to see what he has to say.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
