Getting Banded in Mexico....Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

Anne,

No need to be nervous...it will all be just fine. Incisions are on my stomach...I think I have 4 or 5..they have all healed very nicely. You don't need to bring too many clothes wtih you...just make sure they are comfortable and loose fitting and wear comfortable shoes. Good luck and let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, feel free to email me privately.

It was one of the finest medical experiences I have ever had. The doctor is wonderful and the people associated with him are great. From the time they picked me up at the airport til the time they took me back to the airport I was treated very well, well cared for and felt like they really cared about me. The hospital was cleaner that any i have been to here lately, the nurses didn't speak much english, but they anticipated all of my needs. Alma is a doll and very helpful. The best part was after i got home and was have some stomach trouble, I called Dr. Zapata on his cell phone and he called me back within 5 minutes and told me what to do...when was the last time that happened to you here in the US. Can't say enough good things about my experience.

I was banded by Dr. Zapata on 12/2/08. All I can say is Ditto! I had a great experience. The nursing care afterward was excellent, much better than I had gotten in the states last year when I went in locally for another type of surgery. I do wish I had more diet support. It would be helpful to have someone to talk to who has been through what I have.

Hi! Regarding Dr. Zapata...everyone was wonderful, they were on schedule, checked on you frequently, answered your questions--the hospital was nice...all in all it was a great experience, far better then the two hospital stays I've had in the states...good luck, it will be fine!

My BMI pre lap band was 34. I was banded 12/2/08 and have lost 13 pounds to date. I did not have to do the diet before I was banded. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to rev my weight loss some. My caloric intake is probably 800-1000 cal/day. I have difficulty getting enough Water as I get full even on liquids. I was afraid I might be getting too many calories and not enough Protein with just Soups and other liquids. I looked up several websites that recommended starting pureed foods. So, I did start pureeing salmon and mashed potatoes yesterday. But, I'm not sure what the best approach is. I do not want to waste my efforts. I'm also feeling very tired and weak.

Lois - we started at about the same BMI. You lost your weight.

What do you recommend?

Its been six months since my surgery and I am down 42 pounds, I have had two fills since my surgery and I am soooo happy, I have never regretted this decision, I started at a size 18/20 and I am now in a size 14 and they are actually baggy on me 1/2 way through the day......

LoveforLonnie,

Thank you so much for remembering to ask about my progress.

Today is exactly 6 weeks and I'm having my first fill tomorrow.

I've lost 18 pounds since the surgery; however, it all came off in the 1st 4 weeks. At week 4, my hunger returned and I have been able to eat solid, soft foods. The only foods I can't eat are meats without gravy and crackers. From what I've read this seems to be normal, as the surgeon didn't put any Fluid in my band. Once I'e had the fill, will I notice an immediate relief from the hunger?

Have a great day!

Anne

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
