My husband went for his nutritionist appointment yesterday and she

kind of scared him. She told him that there are a lot of banded

people who can't eat solid Protein, like steak or chicken. Is this

true? What have your experiences been?

I can eat chicken, actually chicken, fish and turkey are good. I can eat salad. My dotcor tells you no steak or red meat because 1 it is hard to chew and 2 it is fatty. Basicly each person is different, or must try different things. He will know what he can eat and what he can't eat.

chicken is all good, no problem, except for that chunky chicken salad that my sister made. I slimed on that, no, I actually PB'd it!, then I took each chunk out of the bowl and cut it into chicklet sized pieces, remixed with a little extra mayo and it went down fine. I have tried London Broil but only a little chicklet sized bite. Too much trouble, but yummy for that one taste. I can eat burgers, small bites well chewed but I tend to spit out the chewy nasty pieces that you tend to find when you are actually bothering to chew the stuff.

Salads are great, no problems, as long as it's well-chewed.

It's not so much a matter of "can't" eat solid protiens (although she's wrong about the chicken, if you can't eat it at all, you are too tight IMHO) it's more a matter if "willing to" since it can be such a bother. You become a bit of a food snob. Some things arent' worth it.

I'd be much more concerned about the things that CAN go down like Fritos and Doritos and just about any type of junk food. Now THERE"S the work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
