Three weeks to first fill?

Recommended Posts

I had my post-op follow-up visit today - I was banded 11 days ago. My NP said I could schedule my first fill in two weeks, but in two weeks I'll be on vacation for a week, so I asked if we could do it just a little earlier, before I leave, which would be 20 days after surgery. She said we could try, but that if I still had this sort of firm-feeling swelling around my port, she might not be able to do it. I'm not really scared of needles, though I don't really want to get stuck more than necessary. I have been quite hungry, although I'm getting that under control by adding more Protein supplements. I also feel great - plenty of energy, and my incisions have healed up beautifully.

So I am wondering, has anyone else successfully had a fill at three weeks after surgery? Or should I just go ahead and reschedule for the day after we get back from the beach and not worry about it?

Hi

I was banded 7/29 and also feel great but hungry. I also added more Protein bullets. My fill is not scheduled until 8/21 because my doctor is on an african safari, i am due back to the nutrionist on 8/14 to be put on mushies. So, I am in the same boat as you, waiting 3 weeks and 3 days for a fill (but who's counting) lol ... good luck, i have to leave my appt the way it is because of the circumstances, sounds like you are on the right track, but vacation right before a fill., that could be dangerous. All we have to remember is, we have ate all the bad stuff before, we know what it tastes like, we are here because we liked it too much... that is what i try to think when my fit hubby is eating my biggest downfall ever (crispy french fries) if i got hypnotized that is what i would ask to look at like they were brussel sprouts.!!!! so good luck on vaca, let us know how it goes...

My fill doctor requires you to wait at least 5 weeks for the first fill. No exceptions. Im having my first fill Aug 16th.

My surgeon makes us wait 6 weeks for our first fill.

I find myself not depending so much on Protein shakes anymore I eat high Protein foods every meal (tuna, fish, string cheese, etc.) I log my food on thedailyplate.com and I'm getting around 100grams of protein a day from regular foods. I'm still keeping my blenderbottle.com shaker cup I got at GNC for hurried days, or for liquid only days at fill times, or just in case. Also keep stocked on whey Protein powder from Walmart for those times too.

Well, I'm still on full liquids, so Protein Powder is really my only choice - I'd give my right arm for a hamburger! Fear of messing up my healing and needing another surgery is the only thing keeping me on the straight and narrow. I think I've decided to put off the fill; we've decided to leave for our vacation one day earlier, and I don't want to risk being overfilled and being four hours and a ferry ride away from my doctor. I really need this break and it would be so rotten to ruin it with that! So I'll do it the day after we return instead.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
