Encouragement for other August Bandsters....

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow August bandsters - for those of you still waiting for your surgery this month I wanted to let you know that the experience was not nearly as bad as I had convinced myself! I was banded at 7:30 this morning, and was in the car on the way home no later than 10am (being driven by someone else of course). I took the anti-naseau medicine, and the pain relief prescription as soon as I got home, and have been walking around as much as possible to distribute some of the gas and minimize the pain associated with that (not so bad really, since I'm up and about). I still can't believe it's over all ready. :)

Just get up as much as possible, and aside from the incision soreness (which is only really noticeable when you are getting up and down) - it's NOT BAD!

GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU! I'm looking forward to the same attitude tomorrow.... :)

I totally AGREE! It was not nearly as bad as a c-section. I'm totally off the pain meds and was really ready a couple of days ago, but just took them to sleep. Go for it August All Stars! THe waters not bad, COME ON IN!:)

Thank you for the insite...my surgery is scheduled for the 14th. I am a little nervous. I am actually going out of state for my surgery...so I am a little worried about the follow up. How long after surgery do you need a fill? I don't see my dr again till 1 month....so I am concerned that something could go wrong on the initial healing stage. Has anyone else had that problem...or that experience?

Don't let the nerves get to you! Pretty quick in and out surgery. My hysto was way worse! I was surprised at how fast I was up and about.

Good Luck to all!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
