ever have any regrets?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post. I was banded 3 weeks ago and never realized how difficult it would be. Does it get easier? Also when things get tough, does anyone ever have feelings of regret?:confused2:

Alegna, It does get easier I promise. I went through the same feelings you are in the beginning, I wondered why I ever went through with the surgery. Now I am almost 7 months out, and now that i have learned about my band and what my body is telling me... I love my band! You are on the right site, you can get so much support here and your questions answered, everyone here is so nice and helpful. Best of luck to you! :) Hang in there it gets better!

I just logged on for the first time since I went back to work about a week ago. I was also banded about 3 weeks ago. Your post stuck out to me because I was thinking the same thing. Not only have I stopped losing weight already, but when I went to mushy foods, I gained 5 lbs back. On top of that, my port is poking out under my skin. I'm completely disgusted at this point.

I'm sorry to be such a downer right now, but it seems like even though I am eating what I am supposed to, the weight isn't going anywhere. But I am scheduled for my first fill on Aug 22 and I go back to the doc next week to see about this port thing.

I know that I did this for a reason and I'm not going to give up that easily. I am learning how to eat all over again. I knew the weight loss wasn't going to be fast, but it's easy to become discouraged when you drop 20 lbs out the gate, then start to gain weight back.

So I'll tell you, what I'm telling myself now, 3 wks isn't enough time to get discouraged. This is just the beginning of our journey and it's just one day at a time. Besides, this forum is a great place to read about other people's experiences. You will find that every emotion that you are experiencing, someone else on here knows what you are going through.

I wish you all the best!

6 days post op and experiencing pains and cramps and hunger and through all that.. Hell no, no regrets.

I'm a 34 year old man, I have my entire life ahead of me and I don't have to tell you all the same.

Positive energy breeds positive results.

You can only do what your body allows, nobody who used the band as a tool and as help to a healthier "you" will ever be disappointed in the end.

I plan on NOT stepping on a scale for at least a month or two. Honestly, we all become so fixated on lbs that we have too many ups and downs because of that darn scale :-)

Its ruled my whole life, I won't let it happen again.

After weeks of being post op you have to realize you lost weight due to being on liquids, of course when you reintroduce "food" like "mushies" ur gonna put on a few. You won't gain 10 lbs, and soon it'll turn around and you'll start to see the results again.

Thats why through the up and down period I won't look at a scale for at least a month. I want to see a number after one month, not the typical ups and downs that go along with it....

Good Luck guys...

Hang in there, it will get better. Your body is adjusting to the band, your mind is also adjusting to the band. It takes awhile for it all to come together, but when it does you will feel much better.

I am a little over four months out and I have no regrets.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am focused on these pounds because I'm so ready for them to be gone. Not getting on the scale is the best advice for me. I mean, it was totally ruling my moods. When I lost, I had an extra spring in my step. When I gained, it felt like a dark cloud over me. I'm just gonna focus on this new life of mine and be okay with my body and my decision.

I was feeling the same way, i'm 3 weeks post op...scale is moving very slowly now. I too let the scale rule my moods, losing a pound made me feel great, gaining made me feel like a failure all over again. I have to keep telling myself this is still early in the process and i'm adjusting. It's very hard, but we have to remember we are on the right path and we did this for a reason, we'll get through it!

2KpUpwithAvery - You gave excellent advice, very well said! When I read your post it even motivated me more than I already am, and that is so awesome! I just wanted to thank you!

I agree with 2KpUpwithAvery!!! I only plan on stepping on the scale once a month or when I visit my doctor. In my past attempts to loose weight I get fixated on the numbers. This time my plan is to focus on healthy eating and exercise and enjoy the feeling of clothes getting looser. I can't wait until I have to tighten my belt.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
