Pre-op Diet Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have a question. My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet and that bothers me a little. I have read most people say that the reason given for the pre-op diet is to help shrink the liver. I want to do a pre-op diet even though my surgeon doesn't require it, I sure don't want him getting inside to discover that my liver is too large and "in the way" and him not be able to place my band. Am I being paranoid? So what I would like to know is what does your pre-op diet consist of? I know everyone's surgeon is different so I look forward to all the responses. Thanks!

My pre-op diet is:

Meal 1: meal replacement(drink or bar)

Meal 2: meal replacement(drink or bar)

Meal 3: meal replacement(drink or bar)

Meal 4: "real"food

*each Meal Replacement should provide 180-200 calories and 15-20 grams of Protein and be low in sugar.

You can have your real food meal at anytime you want during the day. I sometimes have it for lunch or dinner.

Hope this helps you some! I have lost 7lbs in a week

I was only required to do 2 days of Clear Liquids before my surgery and my surgery went well. Clear included: Water, broth, SF Jello, Crystal Lite. I was able to use my whey protien powder in the water and broth. Unjury makes a chicken Soup flavor protien that really helped me through these couple of days. The protien bullets are also considered clear but I have yet to try those.

My preop diet is 2 weeks LONG! and I am doing Optifast (which pretty well tells you what to do in the booklet that is handed out with it) I only like the Optifast chocolate shake or the berry bar, I think the Soup is disgusting! SO it basically involves three optifast products per day, 1 fruit and 2 cups of Vegies in Total!

Breakfast: Opifast shake, Bar or soup

Morning Tea: Approved Fruit, ie Apple, Orange (NO BANANA)

Lunch: Opifast Shake, Bar or soup

Afternoon Tea: 1 cup of approved vegies OR Opifast Shake, Bar or soup

Dinner: Opifast Shake, Bar or soup OR your 2 cups of approved vegies (i.e as a soup)

Approved Vegies only, No Potato, pumpkin, Sweet potato, Carrot

Approved fruit only, NO banana

As much diet Jello as you want

Tea coffee, Diet soft drink, diet cordial, (NO FRUIT JUICE)

I am actually starting on Saturday (5 days early)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
