Please help me to get re-motivated....

Recommended Posts

Hello, Everyone.

I had surgery 3 years ago and have lost about 115 lbs but still need to lose about 30 more. I was doing fine until the death of my husband last year and since that time, I have lost all motivation. The fact that I have come back to this site and am asking for your help must mean that I am finally deciding to get back on track. Have any of you sort of lost your way but managed to re-start your weight loss? If so, I would appreciate any and all suggestions. I have let myself gain back 10 lbs and I know that I must change my head and my heart or my health problems will return and then I will really be in trouble.

Thanks............connie:crying:

Hi Connie....First of all, my condolences on the loss of your husband. It certainly can't have been easy to go through such a loss and I'm sure that all you did was lose focus on YOU during that time.

I haven't had my surgery yet, so I can't really give advice other than the same advice I would give to someone who is dieting and has lost her way......Just take things one day at a time. Forgive your slips/mistakes. Don't beat yourself up because you gained. I think the important thing is to remember to be kind to yourself and accept that you are human and have made some mistakes.....BUT.......try to remember all that you went through to have the surgery and to lose the weight (great job by the way!).....and just try to get back to that place where you felt strong and motivated. I wish you all the good luck in the world....I'm sure you can do this.

kittykoo My sympathy to you on the loss of your husband. Cannot imagine your pain but I would say if you only gained back 10 lbs you did super. Many in that situation would have given up and gained back all so I think you are still on track. Maybe as you said you are now ready to make the final push and that is good. Best of luck to you.

Kittykoo ~ My sincerest condolences to you!

A few months ago I lost my motivation as well ... I stopped visiting this site, stopped monitoring my daily intake, stopped focusing on losing weight and instead focused on maintaining what I had already lost ... then I started gaining and I realized I needed to somehow get myself back on track!

First thing I did was get a fill ... I obviously needed it and it certainly helped. Second thing I did was came back to this site and I make it a point to visit daily just to read up on whats going on with everyone else. Theres nothing more motivating than browsing through the "Before & After Surgery" picture thread or reading about everyone's NSV's. I also make it a point to post my daily menu in the "Share What You Ate Today" thread ... kinda sorta keeps me accountable for what I eat everyday

You have come so far with your weightloss already ... you are so worth the effort to keep on going! Best of luck ....

Hi Kittykoo -

I am so sorry for your loss. I was logging in on my way to the chatroom and your story caught my eye.

I can't even imagine what you are going through, but know that you do not have to go through the weight loss alone. We are all here for you.

The fact that you are stopping yourself before it gets to be a real problem is a tribute to your strength. Don't sweat the small stuff (like gaining 10 pounds) In the scheme of things, 10 pounds is not important. The fact that you have decided to do something about it is great!

Come into the chat room where you will find a lot of support and love and understanding.

Good luck in your journey - and come visit us in lapband chat!

Terri

Thank you all so very much. I so need these words of encouragement. I have always managed to be strong when I HAD to be and managed to do what I HAD to do, but somehow since my life has totally changed, I have just lost my fighting spirit. Maybe there is hope for me yet. I hope that by coming here each day, I will regain my resolve to win this battle. My insurance would not pay for my surgery and I just paid off the bank loan that made this possible last month. I would be an idiot to just give up and regain my weight after paying $500.00 a month for so long. Y'all keep posting and I'll keep reading...You are the best motivators I could hope for. Again, thanks to you all. My very best wishes to each of you. connie

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
