Hello all! Pleased to "meet" you

Good morning; and thank you to Lanakila for directing me to this area : ) My name is Julie; I'm 48 years old and getting banded on August 12th. I just joined this forum a couple of days ago. My surgeon is Dr Michael Jay Nusbaum in Livingston NJ; so far he has been a real gem. I have about 70 - 80 lbs to lose; I am 5'2" and currently weigh 195. Well maybe 80 lbs is wishful thinking LOL. In any case, as I was saying in my "general" introduction to this web site, my only reservations about having the banding is that I hope that I am doing this for the right reasons, and not just because I'm in a difficult point in my life (for other reasons... although not altogether unrelated to being overweight). I *think* I am smart enough to have thought it all through... but then again, I've made poor decisions in the past! In any case I am so happy to have found you all and am looking forward to many discussions. Good luck to all of you!

-Julie

Welcome- You'll be getting your band one day before me. Don'tworry about your motivations, even if they are wrong, hopefully the jump start will put you on the path of weghtloss and empowerment.

I have learned quite a bit since I joined about 2 1/2 months ago.

Welcome Julie! I am very glad I found this place it has provided me with hours of reading that has informed me a lot better about living with the band than anywhere else!! And has made me certain I am making the perfect choice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
