New to site, looking at Swedish band

This is my first day to this new site!

It looks like a great site so far, full of people's questions & everyone else's answers!

I plan on keeping it in my favorites & visiting often!

Last week on Friday I had a seminar with my doctor & a group of other surgery candidates. The seminar went really well. The information was presented in a clear fashion & I went in knowing what surgery I was interested in.

The Lap-Band.

Well, while in the seminar the doctor starts talking about the hospital doing a study for the Swedish lap-band, to aid in the FDA in getting it legal for all patient's who want it.

So I was very excited about that. Being a participant of a study means no cost to you, no insurance approval. Everything is taken care of for you.

So then i had a private visit with the doctor & he thought I would be a perfect candidate for the study! yes!!

The next step was for a secretary or something to call me & tell me when my physical & other appointments would be.

Well as of today i had not received a call. So I called her.

I knew with the surgery study that they need to be completed in October, so I knew I would have to move fast.

Well I talked to her & she was not sure if I would qualify or not, with my pre-existing condition of psuedo-tumor cerebri. I guess a person has to have a worse pre-condition than that to me accepted. But she is going to look into it for me.

Plus my BMI is only 37, not over 40 as would qualify me right away.

So while I was on cloud nine, I got brought crashing back down!

Now I am waiting again to find out if I will qualify or not!

That's it about me for today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
