Thank you all for your well wishes but unfortunately things did not go as planned.

I was expecting to wake up with a locked band, but woke up with no band and two drains in my stomach. The band was eroding into my stomach.

I am devastated, of course, to lose the one thing I thought would help me keep my weight down.

I am not against lap bands because this happened to me. I know they work for many people, I just wish I was one of them. I did not even have my band long enough to get to my goal weight and I was a self pay. Emotionally, it's been tough.

I am trying to tell myself that I did not have restriction for the last three to four months ( actually I never hit my sweet spot) and yet with my walking, I was at least maintaining the 45 pounds I've lost.

While I would like to lose more weight, I know that might not be realistic for me, so my goal is to at least try hard to maintain where I am now (which hovers between 171 and 175). That's not a bad weight to be, but I am short and that still makes me obese, just less obese than before ( which is good).

If I am unable to maintain my weight, I will consider an alternate WLS procedure, but I would have to self pay again. My ins covers it only with a five year history and I wouldn't want to wait five years. And I never really wanted GBP.

I wish you all the best of luck in your personal journey to better health and a happier life. I will most likely not join in on challenges, as it is too mentally defeating for me to know I can't keep up adn I am trying to stay positive.

While I am happy to see your success and all the others on the forum, it is hard to watch people get to goal, knowing I probably never will, so for my own benefit, I am trying to steer away from time on the forum. I hope you can understand that.

I actually came on to start a new thread to inform you of my complication and then saw that Sades started this one.

Thank you all again for your support in the past eight months. I will be thinking of you all, even if I am not here on the forum to tell you.

Judy

Oh, Judy.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Geez, what a blow. I will keep you in my prayers. I don't blame you at all for steering clear of the forums for a while. I might very well do the same thing if I were ever in your shoes. Please don't forget about us here though... we have been your support group and if need be... we will STILL be here for you. (Even in the tough times) If you need to vent or just unload some junk from the trunk, you know we are all here.

Thinking of you...

Craig

Judy,

I am so sorry that you lost your band! Perhaps, the erosion looked like an unlocked band on the x-ray. I can't imagine what you felt when they told you.

I agree with Craig, Sades, & Kelly. We are here for you no matter what! We all started this journey together and you're not done with yours. Your band helped you lose 45 pounds. You are more than halfway to goal and can still get there without the band. Yes, it will be more difficult but you proved that you could keep the weight off with no restriction. Perhaps with another weight loss plan those last 30 pounds or so will come off.

Judy, you have shown that you are strong and determined. Don't let the loss of your band prevent you from accomplishing what you started. I know that I speak for everyone that we are your support group regardless of whether you're banded or not. And if you choose to maintain where you're at now, we are still here for you. Take the time you need to heal from surgery and mourn the loss of your band. I'm sure that being self-pay adds to the pain. If you can't visit with us right now, we understand. But please know that we are here for you whenever you're ready to come back. We will miss you. Please don't stay away too long!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
