Looking for a new band surgeon

Recommended Posts

Okay Ladies:

I'm looking for a new Lap Band surgeon, here in California. My PCP does not have any recommendations for me, because she does not believe in WLS.

I also might consider going to Atlanta, because I have lived there and I have a brother I can stay with. That would not be too much out of my comfort zone.

I would love to get as much information about other doctors as possible, because I really want to get the Band sooner than later. I want to stay focused.:cool2:

Anne

I am sorry you are having to find a new surgeon. I wish I had some recommendations. Have you looked online from some of the WLS centers that may have connections with surgeons in your area or Atlanta? I wish you luck in finding one soon.

I am getting banded by Dr. Scott Davis. :thumbup:Emory has a great team of Doctors and are accreditated. I hope to be banded this month. My baritrician is Dr. Joanne Williams. She is great. Give them a call.

One more suggestion for surgery in Atlanta. I have a friend that is a surgeon and at his surgery center they do the lapband procedure. (I know you are wondering why I am not getting my band from him???):confused2::confused2: They don't take my insurance. This surgery center might be able to get you in faster than Emory. If you call: Tell them you are a friend of a friend of Dr. Cochran. They will take care of you. Good Luck!

Thanks ATL: I am going to first try to get a surgeon in So Cal, but if that does not work out I am quite familiar with Emory. I will definitely check into the Emory Batriactic Center. More than likely they are in network with United Health Care, where as the other group probably is not. I will give both groups a call. By the way did you have to follow a pre-op diet in preparation for your surgery?

One last question I noticed you have 2 different doctors in the Bariactric group, why is that? :confused2:

Good luck with your surgery.:)

I'm so happy that you have your date for Aug. As for me I have been on so many websites, but it is really hard to really know a doctor or center without some recommendation. They all seem very great.

I am really hoping to hear from some of the ladies from So Cal or even No cal to see how they feel about their surgeons.

Hey Anne,

I am currently following a pre-op diet. I will have to switch to all liquids 10 days before my surgery. :ohmy:At Emory they make you see a Baritrician before you can meet with the surgeon. Kinda so you don't waste his time. I saw Dr. Williams for 6 months (insurance requirement) prior to choosing my surgeon. :tongue_smilie:Emory is really formal and they follow the rules to a "T". Good luck on finding a surgeon in Calli! :thumbup:Hopefully soon we will be banded sistas!

TravelLady,

I am sorry you are experiencing some challenges in finding a surgeon at this point but glad you are refusing to accept just any old kind of treatment. I remember your previous surgeon was less than supportive. www.obesityhelp.com maintains a physician listing of bariatric MDs. You may find this listing is a good place to start. Wishing you the very best!

I live in the Inland Empire and work in Los Angeles.. I have researched lots of WLS doctors and one of the best regarded is Dr.Milton Owens. Go to Coastal Center for Obesity, Gastric Bypass and Lapband Weight Loss Surgery in Los Angeles and Orange County, California.

There is tons of great information on the site and the doctor has a wonderful bedside/chairside manner.

Check them out... I am waiting to hear back from my insurance before I can get banded by him. I just turned in my physch. eval on Friday.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi everybody:

I decided to use my original surgeon. I was really depressed to think about starting over, so I was really pleased when my surgeon contacted me, to see how I am doing. I have only lost a total of 12 lbs and my BP is under control, so he went ahead and set my surgery date OCT. 13. I can hardly wait. :cursing: He decided that I am totally committed and I can continue losing up until the surgery date.

It was just too much trouble trying to research and find a new surgeon. I really wanted a surgeon in my own area, and I really figured

it will be up to me to make the best of what ever surgeon I have.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
