Hey,

I haven't logged on in a while so I'm updating. I will go for my 6 mo dr visit on 8/28 and I'm very surprised at how fast it has went by. I must say though I have really struggled to lose weight and have tried (and have failed miserably). Will my ins. co hold it against me for not losing? I haven't missed any of my appts. I wish everyone lots of luck with their journey!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I am sure things will go fine.

In one of the seminars I attended they said they had a great candidate denied by insurance because she gained one pound. Just don't gain ;-)

Hi--

My six-month supervised diet ends tomorrow. I've gained 8 pounds since starting. I called my insurance company and was told that the policy says that I have to participate in a program; it doesn't say anything about being successful.

I'm concerned about getting approval, but at this point it is what it is. Exercise is key to me managing my weight and I haven't been able to do it in over a year due to a back injury. One of the reasons I'm pursuing the surgery is because I want to relieve some of the pressure on my back and be better prepared for back surgery if that becomes a need.

I can't help but think that the person who was declined because of a one pound gain would have been declined anyway. A person's weight can fluctuate by a few pounds from day to day. It sounds to me like the insurance company was looking for a reason to say no.

All those of us who weren't successful on our medically supervised program can do at this point is apply for coverage and hope for a positive outcome. I suppose the worse thing that happens is we're declined and told to try it again, which would suck kinda hard.

Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
