Post op for only 6 days and STARVING! Help again!

Recommended Posts

Hello All- I had surgery 7/29..today was my first day at work ( 6 days post op) and I went prepared.

Had 4 oz of slim fast for Breakfast, 1/2 Jello mid morning, about 24 oz of Water through out the day, 6 oz of cream of broccoli (blended and strained) and then a popsicle...When I a finish eating this stuff I am full but an hour or two hours later, I AM STILL STARVING! What am I doing wrong?? :confused2:

My boss-who had gastric bypass 5 years ago...told me that I may be ready for phase 2 (mushies). I DO NOT want hurt myself by starting on mushies too early so I will stick with my liquids. Another concern is that I am losing 2 pounds a day..that can't be normal, right? Am I not drinking or eating enough? What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Nikole:

Congratulations on your 2 pounds per day loss. I'm jealous of that.

You're not supposed to feel full from the banding until you have restriction from the fills. I found that after about ten days from surgery I was dying to have something to eat. I called my doctors and he said I could start mushies.

You may want to have some Soup more often. Have some fudgsicles too! Call your doctor if you want to start mushies early. He'll know the questions to ask to see if your body is ready for that.

Take care, and congratulations!

Sue

I'm 4 days post op and am starting on smooth mushies as per my Dr's advice, so cream of mushroom Soups etc. I have been on Clear Liquids up until today, and have lost about 4lbs in the days since surgery.

I agree about adding Protein, as it makes you feel fuller for longer. Also try and spread your meals out so you're eating a little bit every two hours or so. It seems to be working for me to get from point to point, and yes, I'm starting to get hungry too!

Protein, protein, protein! Get some high Protein Shakes such as muscle milk. They are filling, and with 22 grams of protein the fullness will stick with you! Good luck, it WILL get easier!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
