Hi All!

I was banded on 6/26, and I've done really well so far. I've followed doctor's orders to a T. I'm supposed to start solid foods on Thursday. I have followed every stage of the diet and postop instruction thus far. Well, today, I had a really crazy afternoon, and I swallowed 2 pills without thinking. I was just running around, realized I needed to take them and popped them both in my mouth at the same time and swallowed. They're each probably the size of an M&M. I didn't even really think about it until now, about 1-2 hours later where I've been working at the computer and feeling something sitting kind of heavy in my stomach, then I realized what I'd done with the pills.

Is this a huge deal? Do I need to call the doctor? I feel so silly. It was really just a mindless, inadvertent mistake. I haven't had a fill yet, they didn't come back up, and I've had Water since.

I'm so worried that I've done something bad. I see the doctor on Friday. Should I mention it then or do I need to do something about it NOW.

Thanks, y'all...

Feeling silly,

Minnie

My surgeon said it's completely fine and no need for me to even cut my pills in half unless I can't tolerate them. I've been taking my pills whole since I was banded on 7/15/08 and I had a check up today and I'm fine.

My Doc gave me pain pills to take 3 days after surgery. I think you'll be fine.

Youre fine, no worries, please dont fret over this, cause I take pills even after my first fill. And the biggest pill I take is about the size of the last link of my pinky finger. So, no worries. There are far worse things to worry about than that, and so far youre doing great.

If you're really worried about it, call the office and speak with the nurse. She/He can tell you if it's a problem. If you're able to drink Water though, it doesn't sound like you're stuck. So, if that's what you're worried about, I think you might be okay. They could be sitting there b/c they're going to have to fall apart before going through the band. That might be what you're feeling. As far as taking pills in general, as far as I know, that's okay. I think the biggest issue at this point is them getting stuck. Call the office to double-check. Take care!

I agree with the others, BUT, know that it IS possible to get stuck from a pill getting stuck. Or another thing I have done, is eat and then an hour later take my pills, well, sometimes all the food is not out of the pouch and I get stuck from that too. Just be careful when taking pills.

I have never had any trouble swallowing my pills - it is weird because they told me before my surgery I would have to grind them up - I can swallow them just like before - maybe after my first fill won't be able to but can now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
