OK everyone, today makes it exactly 2 weeks until I start my weight loss journey. That's right, I have 2 weeks until I am banded. I was just wondering, does anyone know how long it takes to have the surgery done? I watched it being done on youtube, (which was really cool) and it only took like an hour to watch. So, I'm thinking 45 minutes to an hour to perform it? Anyone wanna let me know how far off I am? Also, if you don't mind, can someone tell me what I need to take to the Hospital with me? I'm staying overnight so I'm thinking I'll need to bring something.

Good luck to everyone out there that is joining the banding community this month, it's going to be a hot month!!!!!

It took about an hour when they did my band.

I took loose fitting clothes and then bathroom stuff. Also take a pair of slippers or flip flops for easy on and off. You should do lots of walking to get the gas out! Good Luck!!!

Hey Sassymama,

I was in the OR for about 1.5 hours. All went great and I went walking twice today. I went a total of 2.5 miles, which I never thought I'd do 3 days post-op. I feel so much better when I walk though. Walk, walk, walk!! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. I didn't stay over, but easy shoes to put on and nothing with a tight waist. Moe

Stacy:

You might want to bring a pillow to hug on the way home. I can remember that when the car hit bumps the "jiggle" effect bothered me.

My surgery was about an hour but I had a hernia repair at the same time.

Best wishes to you for a quick recovery. Don't be surprised if you gain weight the first few days - just Fluid and it goes away within a week. I gained 9 pounds and wasn't warned that it could happen.

Take care.

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
