I am 3 weeks post-op and I've lost 20 pounds. It seems like I'm leveling out and not loosing as fast as I was. Is that normal?? I am still have some pain around the port site too? I will call the doctors tomorrow, I was just curious if anyone else was in a similar position. I'm starting to worry that I might not reach my goal weight. Please offer any advice!? Thanks so much!

Yep! Totally normal. The port pain is only just now almost completely gone for me, (in the last couple days) and I lost weight like crazy for the first month, but in the eleven days, have lost a total of about 4 lbs. After losing 30 lbs in a month, it's disappointing and seems freakishly slow, but I remind myself that pre-band, 2 lbs a week was pretty exciting, and still relatively fast.

Here's another tidbit: At about 5 weeks post op, I started really feeling as though I were healed up, and guess what....even though I had experienced fairly good restriction all along, it started to dissipate. I am unable to get a fill for almost a month, and I can suddenly eat just about anything, and as long as I am careful to chew thoroughly, I don't get filled up on a teensy bit of food anymore. Now it's all about WILL power, or more importantly, WON'T power!

Reality is, getting banded isn't the conclusion to the long journey...it's just one very important step. That first, (and possibly 2nd or 3rd) fill is the point at which your new tool (and mine) will really start making a huge difference!!

Congratulations on losing 20 lbs during this phase. Some people gain!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
