Hello All!

It's just a matter of time until I am banded. I'm just getting my finances in order.

Anyway, I have a question about recovery. After the surgery, how long did it take you to get on your feet? Was there a lot of pain?

Thanks!

Pamela.

Pamela.....I was banded on 4/29 and it went great. I had my surgery at 11:00 a.m. and was home by 3:00 that day. I was a little groggy but not in any real pain. The next day was my "gas pain" day! Saturday was my roughest day and I had a lot of gas pains in my back. But oh what a difference a day made by Sunday. I couldn't believe how much better I felt. I even managed to go grocery shopping that day. I went back to work on Tuesday and other than having to get up and walk around quite a bit to keep from getting stiff, I was pretty good. I would get home after work and I was big time tired but other than that...not bad at all. So far, I've had no problems to speak of and I already love my band! I'm down 41.5 pounds and that's the best feeling ever. My sister had her surgery done 5/20 and she has done equally as well. So, other than my gas pain, it's been SO much better than I had imagined it would be. Good luck with your upcoming surgery and I hope things go as well for you! Becky

Hi Becky,

I am waiting to hear from my insurance. Your weight loss is unbelievable. Is that typical? You are doing great. I hope my experience will be as good as yours.

WOW Becky! Congrats on your weight loss!

I have a fairly high tolerance for pain, so I am hoping my recovery goes as well as yours did!

I cannot wait. I don't have a date set yet, but very, very soon!

Pamela,

My Lapband surgery was my first surgery EVER! It was done on a Thursday and I was home by 2 pm. I slept for the rest of the day. The next couple of days I was hurting slightly. I am allergic to Codeine so Dr. B gave me Toradol. Pretty good stuff. The most painful area was at the port site. It is attached to muscle and will be sore for a few weeks. Heck, it still bothers me if I wear jeans that are slightly too tight. I was back at work on Monday. I still hurt alot but made it through. I carried a little pillow in my car to hold against the port when going over speed bumps. Yeah, I drive like a bat out of hell. After that Monday, I was pretty good. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
