Lap Band Surgery on Aug. 1

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Friday and am very excited about it, but I do have a few concerns. I do not feel like I am geting enough liquids in because I was told to only drink 1 ounce every 10 minutes. I find myself falling asleep during the wait time. It seems like I am sleeping a lot. Is that normal? I am having a hard time getting 3 Protein Shakes in, along with the other liquids to equal 64 ounces a day. IS anyone else having this much trouble?

Thank you for any responses I can get regarding this.

Cheri

This sounds like my experience. Just get all the liquids in that you can and get plenty of rest. You are only 48 or so hours out. Your body needs time. I was told to drink at least an ounce every ten minutes, but i was not limited to that amount. if you can drink more in ten minutes, it is prolly ok. listen to your body. if it is not ok with your band, the band will let you know right quick.

take it easy and try to not worry. if you are still concerned in the morning, give the good ole doc a buzz.

Thanks for all the support. I just do not want to get dehydrated and then have other issues. I still have not had much today. I may try drinking more in the 10 minutes and see how the band does. I was just told no more than 8 ounces of liquid in an hour and to stick with 1 ounce every 10 minutes. I am literally tired of measuring! Is anyone else measuring or are you just "winging" it?

measuring went away for me. once you learn how to listen to your band, it will do the measuring for you!!

I was also banded on Aug 1st. I have been taking a couple of sips every 15 minutes. I bought a digital timer to help me remember to take the sips. I have been getting about 40-60oz of liquid in so far. It depends on my napping times:smile2:

I too was banded on the 1st and am on a totally clear liquid diet with the option to do 1 - 2 Protein shakes a day. I was never told a certain amount to drink, but to just drink all that I could. I have tried to do the Protein Shakes, but just can't seem to get them down without feeling YUCK. So I think I truly will only do the broth, Jello, juice and Water thing for a full week. I think maybe my body is just telling me to go slow. I go to the doctor Thursday so we'll see what he has to say about my progress.

As far as being tired I am just beat. I feel like I need a nap every couple of hours, especially after a good walk. I live in the Houston area and it has just been too darned hot to walk outside unless it's at 3 in the morning, so my floors have been getting a work out. I even attempted the staircase today. Now I'm hoping that the Hurricane Eduard will be kind to me and my family, because I don't think I could make it without A/C.

Try the fruit Punch Protein bullet from New whey. I bought one at GNC just to try it and it's really, really good in crystal light. It tastes like cherry nyquil if you try to drink it straight, so into a drinkie it went and it was yummy. If you aren't a shake fan, this is a great way to go.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
