I'm a 32 yr old mother of 3. I live in Texas and have been considering the lapband for a little over a year. One of my closest friends had hers done last year. She flew to Mexico to get it done. She's lost over 100 lbs but still adamently tells me NEVER TO GET IT DONE. With all her success and seeing it from an outside view, I understand her reasonings but also know that I want to change my lifestyle and experience a new me. I want to be there for my children LONG TERM. I've had so many health related issues because of my weight (currently at 235) and I want to be able to really transform my body and lifestyle. The current problem is that I have not-so-great credit (somewhat horrible) and do not have insurance. Anyone have any suggestions feel free to contact me. my user name at live dot com

Thanks!!!!!

Can you tell us why your friend said to never have it done? I'm wondering what type of problems she has had.

Also, do you have money saved in a 401k? I here of people here who borrow money from their 401ks to have the surgery done. Just one option. I'm sure there is more.

She doesn't like the fact that she has had mood swings ever since the surgery. And, she hates the whole 'no carbinated' drinks. I think this was the first surgery she's ever had and so alot of the side effects are generally tied to drastic changes in appearance, surgeries, and lifestyle changes. I don't think it's 'enough' to make me decide not to do it.

No, I do not have 401k. I've pretty much been a student/homemaker for the past 14 years. So I have nothing to borrow from.

i sent you a private message...do you get a big chunk of change at income tax time? that could be a solution to the credit problem.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
