Banded on August 1st 2008

Recommended Posts

Hi.....Im Karen and was banded two days ago at The Princess Grace Hospital in London. Im so relieved that i've finally had the procedure and have already lost 3lbs! I have had no feeling of hunger at all and can manage not more than a few spoonfuls of Soup or 1/2 cup of tea. Im still a little sore and trying to get used to the tight feeling in my chest but as each day has passed the pain is better. Im looking forward to seeing the new "me"!

Hi there!

Well done on a successful operation and glad you are feeling Ok and best of all have lost weight already!!!!!!!!

I am just at the very beg of this journey...been to see my GP who is referring me( easy when u say you are self funding eh?) had some routine blood tests done via my GP just to check my thyroid and liver and a whole bunch of other stuff which I can't remember. If everything is OK she will refer me.

I am really really looking for a buddy to go through this with! My husband is supportive but apprehensive for me( he thinks, like so many other people that this not a 'necessary op' in his opinion and scared of me going through this)

I have not told the rest of my family as I don't want them to worry.

if you are interested in sharing this journey with someone, I'm your girl! Hope you are still feeling OK and taking it easy!

Arran x

Congratulations on your getting banded. As you are in the UK does the countries health insurance pay or it or is it self-pay over there. Here in the states some insurance pays some don't. Luckily mind did. What are your food restrictions, I wonder if they have the same programs with multiple visits for physicals and shrink appointments, and group meetings? I took me from my initial phone all in Early Feb. to now to get this done, a few minor delays which maybe added a month or two. But all in all it gave me time to think this through a lot and decide it's the best thing.

Hope you continue to lose and feel good. Have a good gas relief product on hand I hear you will need. it.

Again best of luck

Pati

Hi fellow Aug 1st'ers Well we did it.. I sure hope you fellow bander's are feeling as good as I feel... Yesterday a little sore and weak.. But much better today. I was banded in Monterey CA by Dr. Mark Vierra. I was so worried and I should have listened more to you guys you were right... I would do it again in a second. So far so good. The thing I keep thinking about is everyone at the hospital saying congradutation... That was so cool. Lets keep in touch and be really big loosers... I would like to loose 100 pounds. At the moment of surgery I was 241. I love a challenge.. We all must because being overweight is a real challenge everyday in every way..

I was self funded....i could have had the surgery on the National Health Service but the waiting list was over 2yrs long and there still would be no guarantee that i would get it.

I was on a liquid diet for 1 week prior to the surgery and now have to continue with liquids for 3 weeks. You then progress onto pureed/soft foods for 3 weeks and then introduce normal foods if tolerating the mashy stuff. The weirdest thing i have found so far is that im just not hungry at all. I was 329lbs and got to 280 by dieting but yoyo'd for a year. I was 280 the day i was banded so lets see how well i do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
