Can anyone tell me what questons are asked at a psych evaluation? Is it possible to flunk the evaluation? Also, I had 3 hernia repairs within months of each other, a couple years ago. I have a ton of scar tissue, metal clips and mesh in my tummy. Will this cancel my chances of being approved?

There was absolutely nothing to my psych eval. It was more of just a bs session. She did ask me how I felt about myself. I told her besides my weight, I felt good about myself. Other than that it was just small talk. I guess each one is different but I think she was more or less summing up my state of mind.

As far as the surgeries, I don't think that will hinder you at all. You didn't say where your hernias were ut I have had a ton of abdominal surgeries and it didn't impact the outcome in any way. I have BC/BS of Illinois and they paid 100%. I did have to do a 6 month diet first but that's about it.

Hope everything goes well. Good Luck!!!

I had two sessions with my psych. He pretty much asked about my life history, my marriage and kids. He asked If I ever had been on anti-depressants before. If I have ever lost weight before and do I know the process of my upcoming lapband surgery. Your pretty much just talking is all. Nothing to be worried about. I guess they just want to make sure your in the right state of mind in general and can hold a conversation (who knows now a days).

My psych eval wasn't much either. I had to fill out a paper for anxiety and one for depression. She also asked me a few questions realitive to place, date and time. She also had three words she asked me to repeat after her and then later in session she had me repeat those three words. I guess to test my memeory! LOL After the session she said she was going to approve me! I was only there for an hour!

I went 2 times. The first time alot of questions were ask about marriage, family history (dont bring up anything from the past) and just stupid questions. I had a test to bring and and work on. If you get one...Make sure you read the whole thing before you start filling it out! A lot of the questions are pretty much the same, there just asked in different ways. So you want the answers to match! Good luck!

My psych eval was very basic. She talked with my about my family history and really focused on my eating habits. Basically she is there to assure that there is no underlying eating disorders. There were two points that she stressed to me. 1. From now on i am no longer dieting. I am choosing a healthier life style. and 2. between each bite of food I eat, I need to put the fork down, sit back in my chair and chew chew chew. She also made another good point. I need to focus on why I feel I am hungry. Is it my stomach or my mind. If it is my mind why? am I borded, stressed, tired, or sad. She told me that I need to focus on determining if I am really hungry or if it is a mind game. With all this info. she has approved me for surgery and now I am waiting out my six months of diet counseling to be over so I can be banded. Good Luck in your journey and dont worry You will do fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
