okay so as i've posted, my surgery is set for aug 14th 2008. im very excited and could not wait for this stage. but now im getting nervous and i need some words of encouragement.

what if i dont lose weigt? ive seen posts of people who have had the band for months and have only lost 10 lbs. what if my band slips or something? what if this whole loosing weight experience isnt at all what i built it up to be in my head? is it really goin to feel THAT good when i loose weight?

my hospital mandates this very intense pre op testing. i had to go to a neurologist, cardiologist (echo & stress test), gastric(colonoscopy & endoscopy) psych evaluation, abdominal sonogram, leg sonogram, pulmonologist (breathing test and sleep apnea "slumber party")and primary doctor. now on the 6th i have to go for my pre op appt. on the 7th i have to get more tests done(what else could they friggin do to me?!?) and on the 11th i have a class i need to attend to remind us of what to expect. keep in mind im only 19. at least i have a clean bill of health--but ive never asked anyone this question...i have no idea why.

for the first 2 weeks after surgery oi have to be on a liquid diet..as im sure most of u have. AM I GOING TO BE HUNGRY FOR TWO WEEKS? or will i feel like i wont even want to eat?

thanks for reading this far in to it. i just dont have people around to talk about it with. any replys greatly appreciated!!!

You're going to be great! Don't worry, everything will be fine. Put yourself in a good place mentally, you'll likely recover quickly. And don't fret, you will not be hungry. I know it's hard to imagine, but it's true and fabulous. As far as gaining weight or not loosing any weight, just follow your nutritionist rules and you will succeed!

Hello there! I just had my banding done on July 29th and i had the same thoughts you are having leading up to my surgery. The pre-op liquid diet was hard for me but i stuck to it because i knew i had to so my surgery would be safer. Now that i have had the band and i am feeling much better i can tell you, and this from someone who wouldnt ever THINK of skipping a meal, you are NOT hungry. I have absolutely no appetite and i have already lost 20 lbs since i started the preop diet. Trust in your decision and enjoy your new life. It will all be worth it! Good luck and take care!!!

Congradulations on getting approved. You will do just fine. I was on Clear liquids a week before surgery and then on regular liquids the following week. You will be surpised at how you can eat and feel full with liquid drinks. You can can do a lot with milk, Soup liquids. I never had a problem with the 1st week after surgery. The biggest thing is to make sure you get 60-70 grams of Protein daily and you will be just fine. Good luck and if you have any questions just ask.

Chris

It is normal to be nervous - I just went through the same thing the other day. I have my surgery on the 5th and I completely freaked out on Friday.

Just keep in mind why you are doing this. I have all of the reason written down on a card that I keep on the fridge, next to the bathroom mirror and in my purse. This helps when I feel hungry.

I have found that if I am getting enough Protein I am not that hungry between meals. Keep the goal in mind and you will get there!

oh I thought I was going to fail at losing weight. I've been on so so many diets, I thought maybe I had ruined my body, metabolism, etc from all my yo-yo dieting and that I wouldn't lose try to stay optimistic focus on healing post op.. Do what ur doc requires of you, schedule ur follow ups and fills. Ok I get hungry and I eat what I'm allowed on my liquid diet and I'm fine... Ok I can tell u what I use to eat and what I eat now, and you'd think it was 2 different people... My thing was I could eat and only be full short periods of time 6 carne guisada tacos with cheese and chips and queso... Ah hungry 3 hours later... Now it's like protien shake..... HOURS later yogurt/ Jello

I'm so excited for u! Besides u got all of us here for support and to answer questions, search the forum for ideas on how to spice up ur liquid phase, so u have a variety. Good luck keep us updated!!!!

You will be just fine. There are a lot more people out there that have no complaints than people that have complaints about not loosing, etc. Just do everything the doctor tells you and don't eat ice cream.

Good luck!

it sounds like you are being banded in a really great place if they are going to that extent to do all the pre op testing first. So, I think you will be in good hands. I have my surgery on August 5th, and it can't happen fast enough for me. The liquid diet IS hard for the first 4 days or so. You WILL be hungry and maybe a bit miserable. But, if you weigh yourself often, you should notice some results on the scale, which will be an incentive. And after day 4 your tummy will just stop asking you for food. I was starving to begin with, and now that I'm at the end of the two weeks, I'm having trouble getting down three shakes a day.

About your Mom....maybe you could show her some studies on obesity, or better yet, show her the documentary about it on PBS. I think maybe she just needs some more information. It's natural for people to think that you can do this by yourself, and that surgery is too drastic, but that fact is, most people can't do it by themselves. If you go to www.pbs.org and type in "obesity" you'll probably find the documentary.

Take care, and I hope all goes well!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
