BSCS for Texas state employees

Recommended Posts

I have been denied because BSCS has an exclusion for WLS surgery to state employees. I was told that this was more a policy of the state than BSCS, and that no-one has ever succeeded in getting it reversed no matter how many appeals or lawyers they used. Does anyone know if this is true. I don't want to go to the hassel if its useless. I saw on the main site that BSCS has recently changed for approval in Colorado and New Mexico. Please let me know if you have any info. BCW

Which type do you have? My husband has ActiveCare and I have HealthSelect, but we are both state employees. ActiveCare doesn't have an exclusion but HealthSelect does.

HI,

I have Federal employee BC/BS and they will not pay for the lap band. I've called three times over the past six months and always get the same answer. They consider this a temporary fix, however if I wanted by-pass surgery, they would pay for it. I'm taking a loan from my retirement plan.

I have Mississippi/Tennessee federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield and I was also denied the lap band but approved for gastric bypass. However I have heard some Blue CRoss programs are paying for the band if BMI>50. Best of luck to you! I payed out of pocket for my band and went to Europe (spent around 6,000 for the surgery)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
