I was SUPPOSED to have surgery today at 8am. But last week I came down with a sever upper respitory infection that I thought would be cleared up by today. I went into the hospital this morning, got my IV's in and was all ready to go when the anesthesiologist said "No." My throat was still too raw, my cough still too strong, my mucus and 'lung boogers' too green and coming up too often. I knew I was too sick but I had been looking forward to this for so long that I had convinced myself that I wasn't that sick. But I am. He convinced me that its an elective operation, and I should elect to do it when I am at 100%. So I have been rescheuled for 8/15.

But while I was waiting, I was getting really nervous. Why am I doing this? Is it going to hurt for a long time? Why am I intentionally putting myself into a painful situation? Do I really want to go through all this just to lose weight? I don't have any obesity related health issues right now. Is this all for vanity?

Please, someone who has done this... would you do it all over again? Why?

Yes I would do it all over again. When my surgeon said this time next year I could be 300+ , it hit me he was right. And only 7% loose the weight and keep it off threw diet and exercise alone. I did a lot of research and don't regret my choice.

Yes I too would do it all over again. I was very sick a week after my surgery because I had lots of swelling which not everybody has. I could hardly hold my head up when my husband took me back to the doctor and the nurse said I promise this is going to go away. I told her I was not good for publicity in the lobby but I was an unusual case. I had a kidney removed in 2002 and had scar tissue that had to be removed which probably caused some of my swelling. My problem now is that I have no restriction and just days ago could not hold down two sips of Water. Today I felt like I could eat everything. But I am still so excited and can't wait for a fill to get some of that restriction back. Yes I would do it all over again just because I know what good is yet to come. Hang in there. You will be ahead of lots of us. We wait until we already had health problems where you can beat that.

I would absolutely do it all over again. And I had some of the same thoughts while I was waiting to go into surgery. I think that is normal. I had no pain, no gas and only felt like I had done too many sit ups. My stomach was just a little sore. I got my first fill today and I am excited about having this tool to help me reach my goal. I don't have any health issues yet but by looking at my mom and her history of obesity related health issues, I knew it would only be a matter of time.

Andrea, I would be thinking the same thing too just from getting so close to having it done. Honestly, give yourself time to get over from feeling yucky and being on the edge of a cliff.

I've been heavy my entire life. And thru all those yrs, I only attempted ONCE to lose weight..thru WW. I got off 75lbs but it lasted only 3mos! Being 40 now, I knew I had to do something and trying WW again for the last 3yrs wasn't working anymore. My mom and sis are both diabetics and I was on the verge. The best thing from being banded...only 13wks out and I'm already down 54lbs. What's exciting about that? well, only 1 fill so far so I still consider my journey JUST beginning for me! Keep the positive up. I'm not trying to say banding is the only way to go, but seriously e honest and true to yourself...what will work for you??

It is not Vanity It is your Health. My husband had a stroke at age 56 as a result of high blood pressure and being over weight. He is paralyzed on his left side. The last 5 years have been very hard on both of us. I am very happy to hear that you do not have any health problems. Keeping that in mind perhaps you will be able to lose weight on your own and keep it off. For me I know I have lost and gained the same 100 lbs at least 4 times in my life. In between I have gained and lost various amounts of weight. My health is now in jeopardy and I am certain that this will be to tool to help me reach my goal. Good luck to you what ever you decide.

You will be fine and you'll be glad you did it when it's over. I felt the same way at the night before my surgery and at the hospital getting ready, like "what am I doing??" but I did it, i'm still in the early stages post op but i'm on my way and I couldn't be happier, you will be too. Good Luck!

I was Morbidly Obese. That alone is a major health issue. The pain of my lap band was very minor. Compared to my other surgeries, spine fusion, rotator cuff & ankles this was pain free & easy. More than losing weight is the new lifestyle. It took me over 10 years from 1st seminar to being banded. I had to lose lots of bad habits. You will do just fine! Good Luck, Hasta Pronto, George:thumbup::wink2::thumbup:

I would absolutely do it again. I was sort of in the same boat as you. The week before surgery I ended up with an abscessed wisdom tooth. I called the surgeon and they immediately cancelled the surgery until after the tooth was pulled. I had to wait almost 2 more months. I went through a lot of second guessing myself. Am I doing the right thing? Why can't I do this myself? Maybe I should just say forget it, etc. I had my surgery on July 9. I feel great! Yes, the first several days are hard, I won't lie about that, but not so bad that I couldn't deal with it. Good luck and know you aren't alone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
