41 BMI is high enough for banding yes?

Recommended Posts

I got a letter today from lapband.com. I had sent for some info and they sent me a letter saying that i was not a good canidate for the surgery. I though anything over 40 bmi was high enough. They never even have seen me. I am still going to go to a seminar for the first step but, i was wondering if i am just wasting my time. Help anyone. Thanks:confused2:

most insurances, if they cover, will approve with a BMI over 40 without comorbities. You need to check with your insurance as many have different criteria. Best of luck!

I got the same letter, just ignore it and go to the seminar and see the surgeon. Everything worked out for me and I had my surgery 7/16/08. I dont know why they send those letters out. Good Luck!

Go to the seminar - keep moving along in the process. I wouldn't let the letter discourage you! From that point you should be able to set up a consult with the surgeon and get more information.

I would also be checking with your insurance company and see what they require before they will pay for the surgery. I am self pay, so I moved through the first part of the process rather quickly.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
