It was my staple. Make sure you avoid any big Egg Clumps - you may want to strain it (which is what I did). It had so much flavor. By the third day into post-op liquids I wanted something flavorful. Egg Drop Soup was my savior.

Great question, and Leslie, thanks for the advice. I am not banded but saw this post and had to read it...I love egg drop! And surprisingly, I can make it myself and it's not so bad!

Does anyone know a good way to add the egg so the clumps aren't as big when you make it yourself? :cursing:

I am three months post op and it is funny you should mention it. I am eating some now. It still remains one of my favorite meals.

Don't get your broth TOO hot (not a rolling boil) and beat it like crazy with a fork as you add the beaten egg to the hot broth. You'll get minimal clumps. I lived on this in the beginning. You can use all manner of different flavored broths as well.

The wonton Soup is fine as well...just don't eat the wontons (Chinese). The Japanese chicken broth Soup is fine. Strain it though - it usually has chives and mushrooms.

I sent DH out to get Chinese some nights. He had the food and I drank the soup. I had the Japanese broth when we went out to eat about a week post-op...it was really good too.

After two days on broth, I was gagging. I survived by straining canned Soups, pea, lentil, chowder, stews and egg drop. It was fine, I wouldn't have made it otherwise.

Did egg drop Soup also, probably 3 days after surgery. Before that I didn't really want anything to eat/drink.

I still have it on the "after-fill" days.

I had egg drop Soup A LOT during my first week post-surgery all-liquid diet. I tried it from 3 different restaurants. It saved me during that time, but now even the thought of it makes me gag! Too much of a good thing I suppose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
