Holy cow, I just got my surgery date, September 9. And that is only 10 days after I come home from seeing dh for his 4 day pass before flying to Iraq. I don't know how I am doing this without him. He will be in Kuwait the day I am getting the surgery. I am so scared. I am not good with trauma and stuff, I am so scared. Oh did I say that already?

Sorry, just freaking a little.

With my emotions of him leaving for 10 more months, knowing he is not in safe Fort Bliss TX is killing me.

Oh well, talk to you ladies soon!

Michaele

keep you head up girl, my husband returned from 15 mth tour in baghdad, you will be scared really scared for a lil while but soon you will get a routine going, that will make things easier for you.. Just trust that you soldier knows what he is doing and will take care of himself. And as for having the band, just think that you have this 10 mths to go and get healthy and when he comes home welll..... my favorite quote is " You think Iraq is hot, wait till you get home" LOL.. good luck and pm me if you need to chat, like i said ive been thru one deployment already and my husband is right now in the field training for 60 days to go back to Iraq again in a few months. Take care HOOAH!!

I'm so happy for you! Well, about the band, not about your husband being gone. And I won't lie and say you'll be okay because you won't be, but you will get through it. Deployments are hard enough to deal with on their own, but try not to worry about the surgery, it's really not that bad at all. I'm a big sissy and I thought it was fairly easy, so I think you will be fine. You'll get an added bonus too.....your husband will be totally suprised when he sees you again! That's way better than him seeing the daily progress and not even noticing when you've lost twenty pounds!

Congratulations and Good Luck!!!

Try to keep the faith while your husband is away! You'll do fine! This site is a great source for support! Besides... He will have a "new woman" to come back to!!!

Take care!!

I was told that it would take 48 hours for tricare approval and it did. My surgery date is 8/22. I asked the doctor's office to make it happen quickly because our insurance is changing soon.

I am SO excited. I have preop tomorrow!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
