How do you know if you are fild to tight?

Recommended Posts

I got my forth fill yesterday and there is a huge difference. Last night I could not even eat cottage cheese which has been good for me in the past. I am trying to drink a Protein Shake this morning and I need to drink it very slowly. (have a sip and put it down wait 30 sec and have another) Any thoughts? Is this to much restriction? I know the band usually settles down in a few days. Every time I have a sip of something I get that minor heart burn feeling.

You are very restricted it sounds like but many times it is what it takes to keep the weight coming off. I have been very tight like that before and it usually does get bettwer after a week or two. When you are too tight (at least from my experience) you throw up very easilt and have trouble even drinking liquids. Many of us are tighter in the mornings than in the evenings and I am not sure why that is but I know it is very common. I think as long as you get food and Fluid in you and keep it down you are ok. On the other hand, if you feel completely miserable and fweel like you have a poor quality of life because you can barely eat then you should think about getting some taken out. Some people like to be fairly tight while others can't tolerate it. I think you shouls give it a little time but again if you have trouble keeping small portions down then you are definately too tight.

I had my band filled on Monday, I think I was a little worse off than you were. I stuck it out and today I was able to eat an egg and drink without throwing it up!! Give it at least 5 days!!! I'm glad I didn't go and get any taken out!!

With me, my ideal restriction is when the only thing I can get down in the morning is a hot cup of tea or coffee....by the end of the day my band has loosened so much that I am working hard to resist dessert....by morning the cycle starts all over....just about every 6 lbs I am ready for another fill and they usually only need to fill me .2 cc to get back to my perfect restriction....I have been over filled before and trust me you know it....I was able to drink Water at the dr's office and I stayed slow with liquids all day...however during the night as my band started to tighten i awoke with insane discomfort....I could not even swallow my own spit and i was dry heaving within moments of sitting uprite.....make sure you stick to the 2 days liquid 2 days softs and treat yourself like you did the first few days post-op.......remenber...each fill is an adjustment and you need to retrain yourself all over....

best of luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
