I did not know this about fills! Losing weight again- Yea!

Recommended Posts

Both Sherry and Allison do my fills- they are both great and very knowledgable. They will be aggressive with your fills. My 2nd fill was so tight I couldn't drink any Water so they had to take some out. So I am happy with Dr Brown and the nurses. Lots of people complain that their dr's/nurses are not aggressive at all.

The receptionist doesn't like to schedule you before one month. She says it's because of "infection" whatever that means. The receptionist is not the best in my opinion. She doesn't like her job I think. I was insistent that she schedule me after 3 weeks after the first fill. Call early and lie about the last date and she'll schedule you. The nurses don't care about the date.

I can't remember how much restriction I had after the first fill but I was losing 2+ pounds a week so I had some. It went away after about 2+ weeks so I called for another appointment and got my 2nd fill after 3 weeks.

The other thing about Dr. Brown is that he is very careful to place the band right over the appetite hormone glands at the top of your stomach. I have had very low hunger and my taste for sugar and some other foods has changed for the better. He has a lot of experience and I think he places the band correctly. Reading the posts from others makes me feel that not all doctors are so careful.

Good luck - we are on a terrific journey! I am thrilled with my band!

Sadie

Sadie, I too have noticed that the receptionist ,Cheryl, hates her job. The other day she said she would never have an operation. I asked her if she was banded and she said NO WAY. I also like both nurses, but I have only lost 2 lbs since I was banded on June 23rd. I have had one fill of 3.4. I am glad you said the nurses would be more aggressive because I think I need more on my next fill Aug. 20th. Also thank you for what you said about Dr. Brown's positioning of the band. I had absolutely no problem with the surgery and no pain in recovery so I do think he is good. I hope I do start to lose more weight. I'm so glad for you!!

Iv never heard you need to get the fill amount checked due to evaporation. I think someone is putting you on because I know many others who are at goal and not having evaporation like you are.

Sounds like a teensy leak to me too.

No problem. If you want to save a couple more bucks, you can get to OCC fairly easily without using their shuttle. I don't know what they charge right now, but last year they were charging $130 for a round trip ride between OCC and the San Diego airport for fill patients. If you go on the OCC forum (lapbandforum.com) there are good instructions for getting to and from OCC via the trolley and cab.

I can not go back to Mexico for a fill so my next best choice is to find a center fairly close that has consistent pricing and hopefully will be very good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
