My Surgery is in 14 hours!

Recommended Posts

Hello; I am from Toronto, Canada and this is my introduction to this group. I come from a family with "weighty" issues. My Mother was heavy and lost weight through diet. My sister had gastric bypass 5 years ago and lost 110lbs. That surgery had her out of commission for a while. The risks with gastric bypass are so much more than Lapband. I believe lapband will really work for me, and I it sounds like you can right back to life with little time away from family and work.

My husband and I have 2 children and 1 dog. We both work full time and I working towards a certificate at a local university for my next career. My job has involved a bit of travel and some long hours, and I find it hard to eat perfectly. I will need to be better at this!

I can't believe that I weighed 301 pounds. I am now down 17 pounds with the pre-surgery regime. That gives me a sense of accomplishment. I know I will need more to keep going.

I understand that the clinic has a scale to track the appropriate caloric intake needed to lose 2 pounds a week. Do any of you track fat, sugar and carbs? Do you keep a food diary? How do you find cooking for the family foods that you cannot eat?

I can see this is a good place for support! Look forward to talking to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
