Great Mushie Recipes to share!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I've gotten some great feedback on mushie recipes. So far here is my favorite:

Refried Beans, salsa, sour cream, and cheese! Sounds yummy!

Please share some of your recipes with us! Any good recipes that get veggies AND Protein in?

I know we're all in the same boat and compiling some winning recipes will definitely make the mushie phase go by much quicker

Thanks everyone!:biggrin2: Let me know some great ideas!

I like that recipe, it is a staple for me, though I add some canned chicken and puree it. It adds a bit more Protein.

I like mashed cauliflower. Boil the cauliflower until very mushy, drain, add some ff ranch dressing and puree. Top with cheese (protein).

I too partake in the wonderment that is refried Beans with cheese and sour cream. It is soooooo yummy:tongue2: I also make chicken salad (put chicken through the food processor after being boiled with garlic, salt and pepper) then I add the new Kraft low fat mayo made with olive oil, a small amount of mustard (I like it like this) and the no sugar added sweet pickle relish, then salt, garlic powder and pepper to taste. It is simple, yet yummy. I also make tuna salad about the same way.

The recipe is as simple as that! Just use refried Beans, sour cream, and salsa. Puree those together and sprinkle some cheddar cheese on top. voila!

another good recipe ive heard of is Tomato sauce, ricotta, and chicken pureed.

these other recipes sound yummy, too! whoo hoo for more ideas.

anyone else have some recipes? im really looking to get in more vegetables. i love the cauliflower idea.

Hi, I am not banded yet, but constantly thinking about how I am going to make it through the liquid and mushie phase afterwards. One of my favorite recipes is a Soup with cauliflower it is wonderful and I believe definetly doable.

You bake your cauliflower with onions and garlic and olive oil. Then you boil it in chicken broth you will probably do that a little longer with the band because you want it real soft.

You put the veggies and broth(cooled alittle) in the blender and blend it till it is smooth. The original recipe calls for heavy cream but I am thinking the low carb milk or maybe skim milk. I have not started looking into powders and stuff to add protien if you know of any please let me know.

Thanks and hope you enjoy Emilie

For a nice "sweet treat", you can add the SF caramel flavored coffee Syrup to ricotta cheese.< /p>

Also, I like to make a "fake" lasagna, ricotta mixed with a beaten egg and Italian seasoning, topped with marinara sauce and Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses and bake.

I make instant mashed potatoes with chicken broth instead of Water, and add some powdered milk to give more Protein.< /p>

Black bean Soup is good too....one can of black Beans, rinsed and drained, add salsa, and chicken broth, puree and heat individual servings. Add some chicken to it as well before pureeing if you like.

I add cheese to just about everything, and if I can put some powdered milk in it to add to the protein I do. Scrambled eggs with salsa and sour cream (and of course cheese!)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
