You need to find another dr to take over your care immediately. Don't wait one more minute and don't go back if you can help it at all. You might want to report him as well. Some poor soul might just listen to him? That's so unhealthy. We are meant to EAT. He's def smoking something funny. Run don't walk away.

Are your doctors really recommending shakes? Mine said DO NOT DRINK YOUR CALORIES!! They repeated this over and over and over! Your doctor has some scarey recommendations. Mine said "keep your pouch as small as you can as long as you can and you'll be successful"

The Doctor said that food will disgust you and to stay on liquids....he needs his head read!

Get a new doctor, he is sure promoting the wrong ideas! He is promoting on how to become a skeleton!

Seriously, I could eat anything and I was too tight. I thought I was at the perfect fill. I could eat all the things most people have trouble with - chicken, steak, scrambled eggs, bread. I had to be more careful with the eggs and bread, but I never PB'd. I had terrible reflux and it was getting worse. Eventually, even when I drank Water or any liquid, anyone around could hear it going down. I never felt disgusted to look at food and a glass of Water never satified me. I also was never able to go with out a meal, let alone a day without eating. This may sound like I have an eating problem and was eating all the time. That is not the case. I was eating small amounts. I was satified with smaller amounts for a few hours, but never a day. When it was a meal time, I was hungry.

You are right, you should not have to have liquids to lose weight. liquids will go right through the band and will not help you stay full longer.

After reading your post, I'm at a loss for words, that a physician would give you such poor advice. If you really like this doctor, I would ask him if he has been banded and to further explain his "theory".

As all have said here, the band is a tool, it does not replace food. I've been banded almost four years and sometimes I look at food wish I could eat it, but I know my band will not tolerate it, so I have to make another choice, but to say food disgusts me....NOT.

Also, it does not sound that your doctor is a true advocate for the lapband.

Keep us informed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
