Hey there, I read your post & I feel so bad your in so much pain :frown:I have not had my band yet. I have read a lot of people talking about BAD gas after. I think they pump it in you during the surgery. Have you spoke w/ your doc yet? I think you should just to be on the safe side. I know you have swelling after surgery too. That may be why you feel SOOO tight. I'm sorry I can't help you more. Keep us posted. {{{HUGS}}}

I wish I could tell you everything will be okay by tomorrow, but I would be lying to you. Do you have medication for the nausea and pain? If yes, take them. As long as you are keeping the fluids down, keep drinking them, you do not want to dehydrate yourself. Sip slowly and continously. Have you had any Soup or protien drinks?

It does get better, just hang in there.

ugggh.......i started with 3 ounces of high Protein boost this morning. just took all my meds n lovenox shot going to have somemore boost in about an hour. Later I will have some strained cream Soup. When I woke after only getting two hours sleep this morning I though to myself I should start the high protein to help the muscle walls with the swelling. every so often I get a sharp shooting pain in the middle of my chest that moves upward for about 20 to 30 seconds..... sigh....please tell me this will go away too! thank you heidib n mrsjj for your concern.

I know it's difficult but things will slowly improve. Be patient. I am 6 weeks out and had alot of the same symptoms you describe. You must go slow with your drinking. Just sips. Don't try to actuallu drink. You have alot of swelling inside the needs to go down. As for the chest pains I too had those and I figure it was also from the gas or the hiatal hernia repair. Continue to try to walk, try Gas X Strips or any other gas relief. It didn't help me much but alot of people on this site swear by them.

I know it is hard now but think of the results down the road. I feel so much better now and am due to have my first fill on August 8th. I am now so excited to feel some restriction again, once all my swelling went down I got my appetite back but have controled it and have kept off my 25lbs that I have lost. Keep the faith, things will slowly improve.

Take Care of yourself. Leah

Did they give you a fill at surgery? That sounds awfully tight to me, even considering swelling and stuff. I'd call the surgeon's office just to check in and tell them how you're feeling and see what they say.

For me, I didn't feel any of that and still don't. I know for a fact that there is no fill in there, because I asked both before and after surgery.

Debski,

I am sooo sorry you are in this pain. It will get better, believe me. I had the same feelings the first couple of days (I am 5 weeks post op today) I went through the "what have I done to myself" thing on a hourly basis. Do I feel wonderful now?? Not completely (pretty much based on the hernia repair I had done at the same time) But I feel so much better. As for the pain you have that goes upwards...I know how bad that can be. I still have slight pain in that area... but I promise...it too shall pass. My surgeon told me that is the band causing that pain. I was so afraid I was rejecting the band or something. I was so glad when the pain got better  It will for you too.

Please feel free to PM me if you need to chat.

julie

Sorry to hear you feel so bad.. hang in there.. day by day it does get better .. just be patient and remind yourself this is part of the healing process .. i had all the same problems you are having .. i am 17 days post-op and all of that is still very fresh on my mind .. i found that sleeping by sitting up in a chair at night with tons of pillows behind me and my feet propped up was the best way for me to sleep .. it took me 9 days before i could lay down at all ... hang in there and little by little all those symptoms will disappear ... and do SIP whatever you drink .. don't gulp it down .. i found chewing ice helped with getting my thirst quenched and kept me from drinking too fast .. and don't drink through straws because it will just put more gas in your tummy, which you don't need .. even though i didn't feel like it and i looked like poo poo ..and even though i had to keep stopping to take a full breath (deep breathing helped my lungs expand even though it hurt like crazy - it somehow seemed to force the gas out).. but i would have hubby drive me and i would walk around wal-mart holding onto the buggy every day for at least 30 minutes .. i always felt better afterwards ... if they gave you an incentive spirometer to practice deep breathing, that helped me too when i couldn't go walking at wal-mart ... i would do one deep breath every 5 minutes and try to get in at least 7-10 ... i am not saying it doesn't hurt but it did help with the gas pains .. good luck with the rest of your recovery

Well....I felt like I got hit by a bus for 3-4 days..little by little I started feeling better, I was banded on July 8th...Now I am also feeling hungry trying to control portions I am also doing some major exercise. Six weeks with a trainer and RN was included in my package...At first I was feeling tired easily, that is much better now. I have been stewing all day because I am going to the Outback for a birthday dinner....going to try my first salad. I don't get my first fill until August 20th....Can hardly wait!!

You hang in there and if you don't feel better in a day or two you call your Dr. Just remember you are still having the after effects of the anesthesia .. The third day might cause some blue feelings ..Once you get some proper sleep and sipping more you will feel so much better ..

Take care and keep taking those meds they are for a reason .. Sip Sip Sip ..

Hugs and more hugs to you

Wow you guys really helped me to know that I am not alone through this. I am feeling about 3% better since I posted this thread. Not alot but like you all said it will get better. Well I believe ya! I put an ice pack on my tummy and moved it around a lil ...this afternoon feels like itmay have helped a pinch. Yes my diet orders does say that In the first week home I can have creamed Soup as long as it is strained. Part of the full liquid diet. Even though I am not hungry yet I think I still will have some for the Protein and add a lil Protein Powder to it. I added protein powder to the broth yesterday......ick! LOL.....Ill try it with the cream soup later. Thank you everyone...You are all helping me to feel a lil better!

Hi there and bless your heart! I was banded 6/25 and still have a little port pain depending on how I turn. My recovery was a little slower than others. I hurt badly initially for about the first 10 days and needed help up, down and all around for the first 4 days. It does get better though! I know it looks bleak at the moment, but it will be worth it! My surgeon had me on Clear liquids and I think I pretty much lived on popsicles and cinnamon gas-x strips for a week.

Let us know how you do!!

Kristin

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
