Why am I struggling so much with the Pre-op Diet?

Recommended Posts

I have to do a 10 day all liquid, high Protein diet and I'm a little concerned but mostly because I don't have enough information yet as to what the surgeon means by liquid yet. (Meaning only shakes or can I do any liquid and add Protein to it? Soups, smoothies, etc.)

As far as tracking your calories, I'd recommend Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate. It's free to sign up and you can enter everything you're consuming and track your totals for the day. It's helping a lot right now as I also added my weight and the fact that I want to lose a pound a week and it gave me my total calories for the day to accomplish that. Then I enter my food throughout the day (and track my water) and see how I'm doing for the day. If I'm a little high for lunch, I can cut back at dinner and still stay within my calories for the day (like today!). It's great and I'm finding it a huge help to me. Give it a try!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
