Hello everyone,

I'm so excited to have found this site and what great timing. I've been in the LB program since early March. I've attended all the required meetings at the local clinic and I have lost all but one pound of the required 10 pound weight loss. My next meeting that I will attend is on August 8th and that's just to get weighed. I'm hoping that the one last stubborn pound will be gone by then. The only thing that I left to do is to see my PCP for a pre-operative exam and that's strictly for my Insurance company requirements. Once that the Surgeon's office see that i've finally lost the ten pounds, then they schedule a visit with the Nutritionist, then another visit with the nurse and THEN I actually will finally get an appt with the surgeon. Of course during this whole time with all the appts,I have to maintain my weight loss or they basically cancel any further appts and make you come back when you've lost the weight.

In a nut shell ,i'm so close to finally getting to the point of surgery, which for some time it seemed to take forever and after alllllllllllllll this lol,i've now begun to feel nervous. I work with 3 woman ,who have had the Roux en Y procedure and from the complications i've heard of ,I decided I didn't want to go that route BUT ,i've picked up this month's Self magazine ,which had a lengthy article about gastric bypass&lapband surgery. I think that's what really started the slight anxiouness I feel. Is this normal ? What can I expect after surgery ?

I had a talk with my Husband last night about this but he doesn't really like to give his opinion because he says it's my decision but it would really help to have some input lol. I have made the decision that i'm going to go through with the surgery but any information will be much appreciated.

I think what i'm most curious about ,is eating habits ,etc.

Thank you !!

Hello Girlnextdoor,

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery. This website will have all your answers. I have been banded since July 2 and I am 4 weeks post op and feel great! I am very happy with my decision as I am sure you will be too.

As for changing in eating habits, you won't be that hungry after you have the lapband, and when you are hungry, you will fill up fast. I am still pretty new to all this as I was only banded a month ago, and haven't had a fill yet, but all seems to be going well for me. I have had no complications. I will be getting a fill on Aug 19 so hopefully I will be losing at a little faster pace by then. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
