I have BC of Tn. Basically to me it was a game I had to play with them. Thier first requirement is that you have lost 10% of your weight under doctors care within the past 2 yrs. If you have a BMI over 40 you don't have to have any co-morbidities. If your BMI is under 40 then you have to have 3 co-morbidities...like High B/P, Diabetes, sleep Apnea, etc. For me my BMI was over 40 with no co-morbidities. I had to go on the 10% diet. Lost the weight then my BMI was less then 40. The Dr's. office submitted it and I got denied because I don't have any co-morbidities. I gained some of that weight back within a couple of months...they resubmitted it and I got approved. Go figure!! I love my band!! Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much for that information. My BMI is 40, but it's been so long since I've been to a regular doctor that I don't know if I have any other problems or not. I'm glad you are happy with the band. I'm really excited about doing this, but my insurance has a $5000 deductible, so I'm trying to work around that. Thanks again!

I have BCBS of Tennessee through my employer. We re really self insured but BCBS just administers the plan.I was not required to lose 10%,but i was required to have a 6 month Dr. assisted weight loss program.I finished in Sept of 2007 and was approved in Nov.and had my surgery in Jan.2008.I have lost 63 pounds since Jan.21 and seem to be doing great.

Did you ever get approved? I have BCBS of TN and am gathering medical records right now. I just went to the seminar at Centennial and that it was very informative.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
