Slip up on pre-op diet: advice please :(

Recommended Posts

I go for surgery in 13 days and I have been on a pre-op low fat diet for about a week. I have been really bad today by eating about half a bag of the large Walkers Sensations packs of crisps and an average serving of a pretty heavy lasagne. I have been sticking to the diet so well this week, I feel so awful how I could have slipped so badly today. Did anyone else slip during their pre-op diet? And how will this affect me seeing as I am scheduled for surgery in just under 2 weeks?

I had surgery on July 9th, and I slipped up a couple of times. The surgeon's goal is to have you lose some weight and shrink your liver before the surgery. As long as you've lost weight, you should be fine. Don't beat yourself up. Just continue on the path you're on!

Keep your eye on the ball. You can do it. Go for high Protein, low fat, fruit and vegies for the next 12 days and you will lose.

Ok first less ur doc have a specific weight loss goal for you preop... I'd call to check even if he/she didn't say.. I messed up ok my diet... Day 10 and 12 of a 14 day preop... And I was sooooo worried about my liver size, call ur doc if u have any questions! I know no one wants thier surgery pushed back but don't wanna be cut open and wake up with no lap band... In my opinion ( and I'm not a doctor, no one just a lady who got a lap band a week ago LOL ) I say get back on track. U had a slip up and I'm sure most people do... Heck there are people with no preop diets at all I think if u keep doing well then well see u back here in 12 days banded ( and complaining about gas and pain like the rest of us!. )

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
