Night pains and food nightmares

Recommended Posts

For me, the past few nights have been kinda weird.

The first night I was like ok....whatever. But then it happended again last night.

About 4ish or so in the morning, I wake up slightly, enough just to see the time and fall back asleep.

Durning this sleep I dream ...or really have nightmares about eating solid food. I'm currently on the 2 weeks liquids phase. I'm eating fried chicken drumsticks and just can't seem to get full. The dream is sooo real, I acutally believe that I'm eating this.

And then the pain...the pain is so bad...not sure how I sleep through it. But my tummy just hurts like crazy. Very sharp pains from the incision area and churning in my stomach.

Crazy I say!

Its possible that you are really having these pains while sleeping but in your dream you are thinking you are having them because you are eating.

Often I dream I am having back pains because I fall or something like that then I wake up and the whole time I was really having very bad pains in my back. Weird.. I know lol.

But then again, if you wake up and aren't having any pain it may really all just be a dream.

When someone is on drugs and they are going through withdrawal they will have dreams they are using. Vivid dreams and they can actually "feel" the drugs. They can wake up feeling as if they have had a hard night of partying.

I wonder if you are having the same effect with food. Your body might even be trying to digest this fake food.

Or perhaps your just really hungry. Maybe you should call your Dr. and tell them, especially about the pain. He might have had a patient that has had these experiences, or he could tell you something productive.

Either way, I'm sorry you are experiencing these things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
