something I have to get off my chest.....I HATE PCOS!!!

Recommended Posts

I also have PCOS and I am losing at a good rate, buy like Mindy, my body cannot tolerate any CARBS, unless they are good carbs, NOTHING WHITE. I also eat NO sugar. I am aware that these bad things go down easy, but the band is not easy, it takes thought and preparation to eat properly. PCOS and CARBS are VERY BAD, especially for belly fat. Try going on a high Protein and good veggie diet, and eliminate carbs totally except for carbs in dairy and see what happens. If what you are doing is not working try something else to shock your body. But, you are doing wonerfully, just know that you probably would have gained weight instead of losing. I just know for me CARBS are out.

PCOS sucks. I know where you are coming from. I have been dealing with PCOS for about the last 15 years. Before the band I had tried everything to lose weight with no success.

My weight loss with the band has been slow. But I have to remind myself before the band my weight loss was NONE. I have had to stop comparing myself to others who were banded the same month as me. For me it helps to make small goals instead of looking at the entire amount I have to lose. I take it 5 lbs at a time. Right now I am 2lbs away from my current goal, once I lose that I will make another 5lb goal.

Remember we are all different and are going to lose at different speeds.

I just keep telling myself:

Slow and steady wins the race!!!

I must admit y'all are scaring me a bit. I too, have PCOS. I am having a band placed (on the 29th :cool2:) as my last resort to lose weight. I am a self-pay and am extremely nervous to pay 10 g's only to lose 30 lbs. or so (yes its better than nothing). I also have a thyroid problem which makes it a double whammy.I exercise like crazy running an avg. of 3-4 miles 3x/wk with cardio and weights the other 2 days. I'm only expecting to lose 1-2 lbs./wk and am hoping I can keep that mindset throughout the entire process. PCOS can be so frustrating. :cursing: Have any of you with PCOS been able to eliminate the metformin/glucophage?:(

I REALLY believe the carbs or lack of carbs is the key to my weight loss.

It almost has to be. For so many yrs i heard " NO CARBS NO CARBS PCOS AND CARBS ARE BAD BAD" and I never really listened. Now w' the band not being able to have them. the weight is coming off nicely , except these last 25 pds are a B ! LOL

But Afrer i had my total unfill and i COULD eat Carbs again I saw what they did to me . they made me crave junk , I gained , I AM NOT KIDIDNG Either 5 lbs in ONE WEEKEND from eating breads and pastas,

So that tellls me they had a BIG part of my weight loss and gain.

I too occasionlly at the end of a meal eat a bit of Pasta or a bite of bread but not very often .

Mindy

Polycystic ovary syndrome abbreviated PCOS or PCO (also known clinically as Stein-Leventhal syndrome, Sclerocystic ovary syndrome, Hyperthecosis, ovarian, Polycystic ovarian disease PCOD ) is an endocrine disorder that affects approximately 5% of all women .[1] It occurs amongst all races and nationalities, is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, and is a leading cause of infertility.[2] [3] The principal features are weight problems, lack of regular ovulation and/or menstruation, and excessive amounts or effects of androgenic (masculinizing) hormones. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly between women. While the causes are unknown, insulin resistance, diabetes, and obesity are all strongly correlated with PCOS. I thought that is what it was. I was diagnosed with it in 1976 little different name and led to a hysterectomy in 1980. I have struggled my entire life with weight and these problems probably there in my teens but not diagnosed until early 20's. They know so much more about it now then they did back then. Surgery was my only option.

You know, that is probably what caused my mom to have a hysterectomy in her late 20s early 30s. She had most of the same symptoms that I have now. I have to admit that, at times, I wish they would let me have a hysterctomy. I am so tired of the extra hair on my face and the acne.

I don't have thyroid problems at this point. My PCP thought that might be part of my problem when I first started having my PCOS symptoms. She finally just said metabolic syndrome for my weight gain and insulin resistance. She put me on the metformin about 3 years ago. My GYN finally diagnosed the PCOS this year.

I asked my doc for a hysto about 2 yrs ago and she wouldn't do it .

She told me the risks of being on hormones at 30 is too dangerous . To have to be on them that long.

So no go on that lol

It honestly is not a great idea if its not really needed. its not good for us to be on hormones that long. There is a link or a connection w/ hormone replacement therapy and breast cancer. She explained all that to me and i realize it.

But my periods have gotten " better" since surgery , they are more frequent , not that thats' a great thing, and they are more "Manageable" meaning they are not as heavy and painful.

So that does help

Mindy

I know that they aren't good for us long term. My GYN's plan is to make me have another ablation to see if that will fix my period problem. I am hoping that once I lose some of this weight, that it will correct itself. I guess I will see soon. Thanks though for the info.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
