6 days post banding and STARVING - Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting this. I'd wondered if it was normal to feel so hungry.

My diet hasnt been as limited as yours, I started taking chewable Vitamins the day I returned home.

And its nice to see so many responses.

that is awesome about the weight loss i want to know how you did that??:wink2:
I really don't know, I guess It was a pretty strict 2wk pre op diet (13lbs) and then i've been on liquids since surgery. (10lbs) total of 23 as of this morning. I start mushies today. guess the weight loss will slow down. I know i need to walk more and i'll be doing that as of today.

I had surgery on 7/23 and for the first 10 days I was on thin fluids...I tell ya, there were times when I was SO hungry! In fact I had creamed Soup 2 days early because I was so hungry. Now that I'm on full liquids, my hunger is under control. I will get to start mushies in a week, yippy! I'm down 20 pounds from the pre-op diet and since being banded. Whoo-hoo!

I have not been banded yet, but am also wondering how I am going to have any energy to do anything after surgery, especially if I have to go back to work right away....

I think one thing that helped me was being able to chew a Multivitamin within a day or two.

Ask you doctor about that though because doctors have different opinions about taking Vitamins right away.

I was banded 8/4 and was not hungry at all the first 2 days. I have been really really hungry on full liquids. I wake up in the middle of the night hungry/ I have even dreaming about food and being at a restaurant where nobody ever comes to wait on me or there is food sitting it front of me and it isn't mine, somebody hadn't finished their meal. Yesterday made egg drop Soup using cream of mushroom soup and that seemed to do the trick. I figured that was better than eating something like the 1/2 gallon of ice cream in the freezer.

I have been on so many starvation diets this brings back a lot of old memories. I am afraid of drinking too much as I do not want to stretch my pouch but I do not feel restricted at all.

Glad to hear i am not alone.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
