Lap Band In Chattanooga Area

Recommended Posts

Hi!

This is my first post and I'm thrilled to have found this site. I have just recently (in the past couple months) decided that maybe the Lap Band is the way for me to get control again. I have tried diet after diet over the years and nothing has worked with any long term success. I am approximately 90 pounds overweight and a BMI of 38, so I feel like I would be a candidate. I live in the Chattanooga area and wondered if there was anyone else that had the Lap Band experience in this area. Also, I have Blue Cross of TN and wanted to know if anyone knows if they are covering this procedure. Any information is greatly appreciated, as I REALLY want to make a lifestyle change.

Thanks!

I think Dr.Ponce, the doctor that invented the Realize band (?), practices in Chattanooga. If I'm right, I know that he flies all over the country and supervises other doctors or something like that. So I bet he'd be pretty good.

Welcome!!

I am fairly new myself and this is a wonderful source for support and guidance. I live in Alabama but was banded in Chattanooga on June 2nd of this year. I have bc/bs of alabama and had to jump through hoops with the 6 months diet thing and exercise at the YMCA at Shallowford. For what I understand your BMI is not the only determining factor. Other factors such as sleep apnea,bp,diabetes and others can effect their decision. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
