Need ideas for quick meals

Recommended Posts

I work strange hours. I usually don't eat Breakfast. I drink an Instant Breakfast or Protein smoothie on the way to work or take it with me and drink it at work as I start my day.

I used to get a bagel or donut on the way to work and depending on what time of day it is, I may have stopped for a burger.

Now it is Instant Breakfast or Smoothie. I always have trouble crawling out of bed so I do not like to get up any earlier than necessary. I need some ideas on quick things for breakfast. Also I usually eat my lunch at my desk while I work. So far I am doing well with lunches. I bring low cal microwave meals, instant cream of wheat or Soup. I would like some suggestions.

I am looking for some ideas for quick simple and of course healthy meals.

I tried a little piece of break with Peanut Butter one day. Bad move!! Wow was that painful. Won't do that again!

I can see where it would be very easy to start eating the wrong foods and I want to avoid eating the wrong foods.

I keep some Meal Replacement bars in the fridge for "emergencies" or if I know I am going to be on the road or working late.

I also buy canned tuna in the "pop top" cans, and sardines and herring, they also come in the "pop top"

Once a month I have a "cooking day" usually on a saturday, I have 2 crockpots going and the oven. I make a bunch of different meals and freeze them in individual portions using ziploc bags.

Since the portions are small, they thaw pretty quickly, I grab a baggie out of the freezer on my way to work and it is thawed by lunch time

Another "emergency" type of food, I keep almonds, walnuts, prunes and dried apricots. In a pinch I can put a handful in a baggie and eat it for breakie, I make sure I have more nuts (protien) than fruit (carbs).

Hi:

There's a few very easy things that I have.

I buy granola and put a 1/4 cup of granola with a container of fat free yogurt - yummy.

Sometimes I have six or eight townhouse crackers with a piece of fat free cheese split into four pieces so that it ends up being four "cracker sandwiches". Sometimes I can only eat three of them.

I have Peanut Butter on crackers sometimes too.

Another quickie BLT that I make is three slices of bacon cooked well and crumbled. Add that to a diced fresh Tomato, and mix in some mayonaise. It's kind of like a blt without the lettuce and bread.< /p>

A bunch of grapes are good.

As with everything else, chew until it's pulverized, and take your time between bites.

I look forward to reading the responses because alot of people have good ideas that we can all use.

Take care.

Sue

For Breakfast I either have a south beach bar with 10 grams Protein, or a cup of fat free sugar free yogurt with a cup of Kashi crunch Cereal mixed in it. lunch and supper could be a Healthy Choice dinner, tuna lunch kit, Wendy's grilled chicken (no bun) with side salad, subway salad with chicken breast or turkey breast and lately for dinner I've been having cheese cubes and dried turkey sticks they have a lot of protein! Oh, I eat a lot of cottage cheese with pineapple on top. They even sell those Breakstone Doubles they are good and have protein!!!

For breakfast on the run, I take a piece of vegemite toast and a cup of coffee in the car.

At home, I tend to eat a wholegrain Cereal and I kind of carry it round the house with me as I get read, it might take me half an hour to actually eat it. I usually put some sliced banana on too.

I eat a lot of Protein bars. They make a great breakfast on the run. I usually eat Kashi Crunch cereal for breakfast though. Gotta have that Fiber. String cheese is good.

I buy those chickens that are already cooked at Walmart and I can eat off that for a few days. cottage cheese mixed with yogurt is good too.

There are several threads like this. I would think if you did a search for ideas, you could bring them back.

Jachut, congratulations on your weight loss; you look wonderful! I'm not sure you can buy vegemite here in the states. Last summer I met a group of Aussies at a week long workshop in San Diego. They brought some in for us ignorant Americans to try. It must be an acquired taste, because I can eat almost anything... but not that! I'm sure there is American fare for which you can relate! lol

Lol, yeah perhaps substitute Peanut Butter or something? Vegemite is an acquired taste, but you eat a tiny tiny scraping of it on toast, you dont slather it on! Even most Aussies would gag at that.

I dont get the Protein shake thing, man those are disgusting!

What I've never figured with breakfast on the run, etc, is that if I just dont eat it, I am way less hungry and eat less all day. I know its good for me so I eat it, but I really do better with no breakfast. Much less afternoon munchies.

Here's my favorite breakfast:

plain Greek yogurt (it's an acquired taste - now I love it)

blueberries

Kashi Go Lean

sometimes I add cashew pieces - they make it more filling, but they are a dangerous food for me to have in the house.

I know what you mean - I have had to all but banish nuts from my house. They are bought now only for baking. I just enjoy them WAY too much - and although healthy when eaten in moderation, scarfing down cup and after cup is not!

Tapshoes,

Baking? Now that I can't do. I love to bake, and gave it up 2 years ago. I miss it, but I can't be around it.

Hmmm, my favorite breakfast is a quick breakfast quiche. I will scramble 6 eggs and add crumbled turkey bacon or finely diced ham, bell peppers, onion and grated cheese. Pour it all into a pie pan and bake about 30-35 minutes on 350. Slice and store in ziplock bags. Just heat in microwave in the morning!

Vera, that sounds really good. I plan on giving that a try.

Couldn't you put the quiche in muffin tins and have 6 individual portions? I used to make quiche that way, and it was handy.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
